Grade 6 (Salaried)Position Description:The Student Conduct Specialist IV serves as a non-academic student conduct officer and assists in responding to students in distress. Be proficient and effective in utilization of Maxient Conduct Software while accurately identifying cases for Clery and Title IX review by the appropriate offices. This position serves on the Student Affairs On-Call Crisis Team providing 24-7 responses. This position provides timely support to departments regarding behavioral concerns and distressed student situations. The position assists in the development of the Dean of Students policies, procedures, and publications including the Student Handbook. The role involves conducting benchmark studies to assess the current practices of peer institutions, recommend best practices, and generate comprehensive reports to outline these recommendations. Assist with other duties as assigned.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Serve as a non-academic student conduct officer in the Dean of Students Office. Create, schedule, follow-up and document cases in the student conduct software database. Update case files and track sanctions for completion and input University of Louisville Police Department reports as needed.In administrative conduct meetings, meet with students who have allegedly violated the Code of Student Conduct. Carry out administrative conduct meetings, to resolve cases, and assign sanctions as appropriate based on assessment of information provided.Serve as a facilitator for student conduct hearings. Following guidelines directed by the Kentucky Campus Due Process Protection Act, manage assigned cases, ensuring their effective administration by preparing all notifications and documentation; scheduling conduct meetings and hearings; notifying all participants; and review all physical and/or documentary information submitted to the hearing boards.Serve as a conduct investigator. Conduct timely, equitable and unbiased administrative investigations into assigned student complaints. Utilize personal critical thinking to identify gaps in reporting and initiate follow-up questions to complete reporting. Write and present final investigative reports.Assist with students in distress and provide care and support as needed. Responding with emotional awareness to reports, provide, one-on-one meetings, campus and community resources to help students resolve immediate difficulties and concerns with mental health, medical, and financial issues.Serve as a 24-7 crisis responder on the Student Affairs On-Call Team by providing support and resources to students involved in an accident, an incident of physical or mental harm, or who are transported to the hospital. Understand when On-Call responders need to coordinate an appropriate response with other university officials and family members. Offer student support such as absence notifications, commitment to care, and other administrative processes and follow up actions that are needed to assist the student in returning to the University.Advise faculty and departments on behavioral concerns and distressed student situations. Evaluate conduct behaviors by University students that have been determined to be alarming, disruptive, or threatening to the student or others. Discuss and develop interventions for crisis, and care concerns that arise in the residence hall and/or concerns presented from other campus partners and individuals including faculty, staff, students, visitors, and family members of students.Assist with presentations for faculty, staff, and students regarding crisis, conduct, and care. Establish a strong working relationship with University Police, Campus Housing, PEACC, Counseling Center, etc.Assist in the development of Dean of Students policies, procedures, and publications including the Student Handbook. Conduct benchmarking studies to determine current practices of peer institutions, recommend best practices, and create reports to outline best practices.Supervise the Hearing Council, which is composed of faculty, staff and students. Maintain updated spreadsheet of hearing council members. Provide training and update materials as needed.Serve as a liaison between the Dean of Students Office and the SGA Judicial Board by assisting with complex conduct issues and, clarifying procedures and options available to respond to issues between student organizations, branches of SGA and election disputes.Coordinate programs, events, and activities for the Dean of Students Office, such as the Annual Student Awards program and unit-wide collaborative programs. Participate in programs and activities as a representative of the Dean of Students Office to include but not limited to Welcome Week activities and University and Divisional Committees (i.e. Meal Plan Waiver Committee).Assist with the review of the emergency fund applications and/or coordinate the distribution of emergency funds.Other duties as assigned.Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related degree.Familiarity with student conduct software programs, such as Maxient. High level of commitment to professionalism and excellent verbal and written communication skills.Experience responding to student crisis situations.Ability to foster a collaborative work environment, good judgement, and the ability to promote high ethical standards.Competencies:Possess strong problem-solving skills.Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrates strong ability to cooperate and work within a team environment.
