Assistant Professor - Institute for Conflict Management in the College of Leader

The faculty member is responsible for teaching graduate courses in the Institute for Conflict Management and administration of the Rule 31 offerings of the Institute. This is a ten-month position requiring the teaching of 24 credit hours per year less an appropriate course reduction for the Rule 31 responsibilities, including courses held on weekends and in the evening. Some courses may require travel to alternate campus locations across the state. The faculty member is also responsible for advising and mentoring students in course and career planning, research, and class-related projects. The individual must engage in activities to support the mission and vision of Lipscomb University and the College of Leadership & Public Service. Engage in departmental and interdepartmental collaboration to benefit the program, college, university, and students. The College does not hire remote fulltime positions and the faculty must be available to primarily work in-person, on-campus.

Description of TasksMaintain and develop assigned courses in the MA in Conflict Management curriculum and be available to teach in other majors within the College.Monitor the academic progress and advising of graduate students in the Institute for Conflict Management.Teach graduate courses and potentially undergraduate courses - based on qualifications.Collaborate with the Executive Director of the Institute for Conflict Management to promote the goals and advancement of the Institute and the College.Participate in professional development and research activities in order to remain academically current and aware of relevance in the professional community.Serve on University or College committees and participate in University activities as needed.Perform other duties as needed.Supervise and administrate Rule 31 trainings provided by the College.

Additional ExpectationsKnowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the academic discipline and in professional practice.Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to teaching the courses assigned (undergraduate, graduate, adult learners, online, etc.).Ability to create a syllabus and effectively deliver the learning objectives of the course.Ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students.Ability to learn relevant sections of myLipscomb, Lipscomb University's online integrated database system for entering final grades and other student information requested.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to effectively and appropriately integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.

Description of Tasks - Rule 31 Program:Assist the Director in the administrative functions associated with the Rule 31 Mediation program functions of the Institute for Conflict Management. Must have an entrepreneurial spirit and be driven to grow the program. Asset to have the ability to handle social media postings to promote the program.Promote and market the Rule 31 program including website setup and utilizing current communication tools year-round to promote maximum attendance.Collaborate with the Director of the Institute for Conflict Management to promote the goals and advancement of the program.Involved with all aspects of course management not limited to those listed in this description. Respond to all inquiries, monitor student enrollment, prepare certificates of completion and follow up with evaluations.Responsible for obtaining coaches for observation of mediations and communicating responsibilities to them.Work closely with the professor/instructor in preparing for the course. Preparing all materials for the course, securing dates and reserving rooms.Responsible for compliance with guidelines set by the Administrative Office of the Courts.Responsible for following procedures for obtaining CLE and CME for various programs in the College.

Education:

Juris Doctorate or Ph.D. (with at least 18 hours in conflict management)

Experience:

A demonstrated record of college teaching experience in the classroom is highly desirable. Experience in learning management systems (Canvas) and online/hybrid teaching experience is preferred. Extensive engagement in leadership development and community or government service is highly desirable. Five years of professional practice is preferred.

Qualifications:Strong Christian in faith and practice.Record of teaching and scholarship activity.Relevant experience and relationships in the conflict resolution field.
