Academic Director

The Academic Director is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and assessment of the curriculum and all instructional programs. This role involves inspiring and leading teachers to achieve educational excellence, supporting their professional growth, and ensuring alignment between the written curriculum and record-keeping systems. Additionally, the Academic Director works closely with the Facility Director and staff to ensure that Luma Montessori provides a high-quality learning experience for children, exceptional customer service to parents, and a supportive, collaborative work environment for staff adhering to Montessori curriculum. The ideal Academic Director will also assist in engaging the local community with Montessori pedagogy and implement proactive plans to develop staff adherence to Montessori principles. This includes organizing workshops, seminars, and community events to educate and involve parents and community members in the Montessori approach. The Academic Director will also work to create a culture of continuous improvement among the staff, promoting professional development opportunities and fostering an environment of collaboration and mutual respect.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting Montessori Principles:

Create and uphold strong Montessori principles on campus that embody the mission of the organization.

Ensure curriculum alignment with Montessori philosophy.

Promote Montessori principles through daily interactions and educational practices.

Curriculum Development and Management:

Lead the development and continuous improvement of the written curriculum, ensuring it meets educational standards and the specific needs of students.

Establish clear depth and goals within the curriculum to provide a comprehensive and coherent learning experience.

Ensure curriculum alignment with state, national, and Montessori standards.

Oversee day-to-day curriculum development, collaborating with Luma staff to implement aligned instructional strategies.

Instructional Design:

Design instructional materials and strategies that are appropriate for students' developmental levels and are engaging and effective in meeting learning objectives.

Provide regular feedback, coaching, and support to teachers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ongoing professional development.

Integration of Curriculum into Record-Keeping Systems:

Oversee the integration of the written curriculum into the school's record-keeping software, ensuring accurate and effective documentation of student progress.

Train and support teachers in using the record-keeping system to reflect curriculum goals and student achievements.

Monitor the effectiveness of the record-keeping system and make recommendations for improvements as needed.

Community Outreach and Parent Education:

Plan and host community outreach events and parent education sessions to promote Montessori pedagogy.

Give tours to prospective families and convert leads into enrolled families, driving the enrollment process.

Assessment and Evaluation:

Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure the effectiveness of the curriculum and instructional programs.

Analyze student performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Use data-driven insights to inform curriculum adjustments and instructional practices.

Staff Interface and Development:

Provide day-to-day coaching and accountability, ensuring adherence to Luma Montessori Standards.

Foster a collaborative environment among teachers, encouraging the sharing of best practices and innovative teaching strategies.

Develop and implement a professional development program focused on enhancing teachers' instructional skills and leadership capabilities.

Communication and Customer Service:

Meet with parents, staff, and leadership to communicate student goals and provide superior customer service.

Remain in constant communication with parents, updating them on their children’s progress and approved activities.

Marketing and Retention Management:

Assist with creating open house and marketing plans to share the unique program with the community and prospective parents through special events, tours, and enrollment.

Develop and implement strategies for staff recruitment, training, and retention, fostering a positive work environment and offering competitive compensation and benefits.

Key Performance Indicators:

Establishing Depth and Goals within the Written Curriculum:

Clear, detailed curriculum documents with defined goals and objectives.

Regular updates and improvements to the curriculum based on feedback and evaluation.

Evidence of curriculum alignment with educational standards and student needs.

Inspiring Teachers with the Agenda of Developing Leadership and Support for Teachers' Growth and Development:

Increased teacher engagement and participation in professional development programs.

Positive feedback from teachers on leadership and support initiatives.

Observable improvements in teaching practices and student outcomes.

Mirroring the Written Curriculum into Record-Keeping Software Successfully:

Accurate and consistent integration of curriculum goals into the record-keeping system.

High levels of teacher proficiency in using the record-keeping software.

Regular monitoring and evaluation of the system’s effectiveness, with adjustments made as needed.

Performance Evaluations:

Leadership:

Ability to lead and motivate staff while supporting Montessori philosophy and curriculum.

Communication:

Effective communication with parents, staff, and students, both verbally and in writing.

Organizational Skills:

Ability to manage administrative tasks, including scheduling, budgeting, and record-keeping.

Curriculum and Instruction:

Knowledge of Montessori curriculum and ability to oversee the instructional program.

Classroom Observation:

Ability to observe classroom activities and provide feedback to teachers.

Professionalism:

Maintain a professional demeanor and model appropriate behavior.

Professional Development:

Commitment to ongoing professional development, including attending conferences and workshops.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.

Certification from a recognized Montessori training program, such as AMI (Association Montessori International) or AMS (American Montessori Society). Minimum of 5 years of experience in teaching and/or educational administration.

Strong knowledge of Montessori curriculum development, instructional practices, and assessment strategies.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in using educational technology and record-keeping systems.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
