link/button.Reporting to the Principal Investigator in the Gastrointestinal Biology and Physiology Laboratory in the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, the Research Associate will conduct basic and translational research on projects related to intermediate filament proteins in digestive and other organs in addition to drug discovery related to their associated diseases. The Research Associate will also study novel biomarkers of liver injury and mechanisms of their release into the circulation, uptake by immune cells, functional significance in the biliary system, as well as whether these biomarkers can be used in clinical settings. Additional areas of research include developing and studying liver injury models in experimental systems as part of studying the function of select cellular proteins.The Research Associate is expected to conduct research that will lead to first and co-authorship publications. The Research Associate (RA) will be expected to prepare scientific manuscripts and contribute to grant preparation and applying for fellowships and other external funding mechanisms. This position will participate in the configuration and maintenance of instrumentation necessary for conduct of the project(s). The RA will be expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and early-stage postdoctoral fellows, and participate in other lab-related duties and activities as assigned.Position Status

Minimum Education and Experience

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. or equivalent graduate degree in Clinical Medicine, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related biomedical science with at least four (4) years of related postdoctoral research experience. Candidates with MD/PhD degrees will be considered.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requirements include experience in biochemical, genetic, molecular or cell biological techniques. Research experience with mouse and/or zebrafish experimental systems, and experience in liver biology related research are required. The candidate is expected to have a record of publication commensurate with level of training.Physical Demands and Work Environment

This grant-funded position is contingent on satisfactory performance and continued grant funding. All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment screenings.Immunization Requirements
