Position OverviewThe Department of Chemistry at the University of Kansas seeks to fill a postdoctoral research position in theoretical chemistry, working in the group of Professor Ward Thompson.Length of Appointment:

Initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal annually, subject to mutual agreement and continued grant funding.General Duties:

The successful candidate will develop and use molecular simulation techniques to study the reaction dynamics and mechanisms of the hydrated electron.80% - Design/Execute Research:Conduct theoretical and computational chemistry research on the reactivity of the hydrated electron, including:- Data acquisition, analysis, manuscript preparation, and presentations.- Computational Methods: ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, development of machine learning, and reaction rate theory and modeling.- Research: Project design, execution of calculations, data analysis, publishing research results in scientific journals, and presenting research results at scientific meetings.10% - Student Mentoring:Mentoring graduate and undergraduate research students and active participation in regular meetings.10% - Professional Development:Pursue professional development opportunities that benefit career goals.Position Requirements:The work location is on-site at: 3190 Gray-Little Hall, Lawrence, KS.Required Qualifications:Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field.NOTE: To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD in hand. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an acting basis not to exceed 6 months.Preferred Qualifications:- Completion of Ph.D. within the last three years.- Experience in molecular dynamics.- Experience in computer programming.- Interest in mentoring students.Additional Candidate Instructions:A complete application will include a cover letter and a resume.
