Summary of the Position:

Design and execute formulation experimental designs for developing scientifically sound formulations and processes for both new and existing products.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Develop formulations for veterinary and consumer nutritional and pharmaceutical solid dose products, soft chews, powders, and liquids.

Assist in sourcing excipients or active ingredients to be used in the formulations.

Work as part of the product development team and develop product formulas based on team objectives.

Produce product prototypes and trial batches in compliance with established procedures.

Work with operations to translate formula and pilot production into full-scale production.

Improve/optimize existing product formulas as needed.

Design and initiate studies to support prototype development, investigations, and product evaluations.

Have working knowledge of analytical methods and tests, including microbiological.

Analyze new ingredients for compatibility in new formulations.

Become familiar with semi-moist product formulation and manufacturing.

Provide input into early-stage product concepts.

Evaluate potential ingredients and formulas for manufacturability.

Produce and maintain accurate records of all product development activities, including formulas and pilot batch records.

Maintain awareness of new developments in ingredients, dosage forms, and other related topics and share with the team when relevant.

Evaluate equipment requirements for pilot-scale production.

Develop and lead staff by providing technical direction and constructive feedback while creating a learning and mentoring environment.

Perform other assigned duties as may be required in meeting company objectives.

Regular attendance is required.

Communicate effectively with other departments within the organization and function within a team environment.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in solid dosage formulation, food, scale-up, and manufacturing troubleshooting of dietary supplements and/or pharmaceutical products (animal health a plus).

3 years' experience of pet product formulation/flavor systems.

Education and Experience:

Minimum BS/BA in chemistry, pharmacy, food science, life sciences, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. Master's degree preferred in relevant field.

Preferred Doctoral degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry, Nutrition, PharmD, or other related life sciences.
