Research Associate II with Animal Science

duties to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. May exercise technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies utilizing animal preclinical models, including preparation and execution of studies. Supports team members on animal experimental design and best practices for animal procedure techniques.This position will be in support of the Combat Wounds Infections Division (CWID) at the Operationally Relevant Infections Department (ORI), of the Naval Medical Research Center, Silver Spring, MD.The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. ResponsibilitiesExecutes laboratory research by assisting research investigators in animal studies (small animal surgery, large surgery, monitor, post-surgery observation, data collection at time points) in support of research studies.Performs routine data analysis and basic interpretation, and verifies and corrects data entry.Trains junior laboratory staff in laboratory techniques and processes, as needed.Conducts research in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff.Performs complex laboratory tests, determinations, and analyses involving multiple procedures and a variety of technical approaches.Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.Analyzes and prepares reagent and/or assay product documentation. Organizes and procures needed reagents, performs experiments, analyzes data, and documents results.Good organizational skills and the ability to coordinate the preparation and execution of a study with other scientific staff.May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

QualificationsEducation and ExperienceMaster’s Degree required, preferably in life science.Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience required.Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of complex laboratory procedures.Ability to meet deadlines of projects.Good communication and analytical skills.Previous animal model experience.Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.Work EnvironmentThis position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
