Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The Department of Mathematics and Physics within the College of Health and Sciences promotes North Carolina Central University's commitment to excellence in instruction, research, and service offering programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degree and the Master of Science degree each in mathematics and in physics. In addition, the Department offers all General Education Curriculum courses in mathematics as well as in physics.Primary Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this Mathematics/Physics tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Physics is to develop an astronomy and astrophysics program including research and courses to provide academic support, enrichment, research and work opportunities for Mathematics/Physics students at

NCCU .Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to engage in effective and respectful communication both written and oral.Ability to provide instruction in physics (at all levels including undergraduate and graduate) and lower division computational courses using evidence-based or research-based pedagogical instruction.Ability to create a sustainable research program of interest to the astrophysics community and funding agencies.Ability to effectively interact with colleagues and supervise student researchers.Computational experience in observational cosmology and time-domain astrophysics.Minimum Education/Experience:

PhD in Physics and/or related Astronomy or Astrophysics and 5 years of experience delivering support services in a

STEM

educational setting.Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation:

Instructional

Normal duties of this faculty position include teaching, research, and service. More specifically, the duties will include: (1) teaching a range of physics courses at the undergraduate level, introductory astronomy, computer and computational science courses, and graduate level courses as appropriate; teach physics courses and possibly lower-division computational courses.Review the current astronomy course and develop astronomy and astrophysics courses appropriate for upper division physics majors and MS graduate students.Research

Contribute to the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope supernova project infrastructure team effort led by a Duke collaborator. Specifically, the

NCCU

group is part of the calibration efforts. Seek independent funding and build a sustainable research program. Lead or co-lead independent scholarly research and publication in the discipline, supervise undergraduate and graduate research in the department.Public Service

Contribute to the department, the College of Health and Sciences and the university through service projects and committee activities. Academic advising, holding office hours as well as other normal duties and functions of
