Job Description - Research Technician I, Center for Genomic Medicine (3303071)The Mouro Pinto Laboratory in the Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic candidate to join our research group. Our research group has a strong interest in rare neurodegenerative genetic disorders, particularly those caused by unstable microsatellite repeats, such as Huntington’s disease (HD) and Friedreich Ataxia (FA). A major focus of our research has been the characterization of the mechanisms responsible for repeat instability, in the context of such diseases and as potential therapeutic targets.Please note, the functions below are representative of major duties that are typically associated with these positions. Specific responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. Similarly, not all duties that have been outlined will be assigned to each position.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Prepares basic solutions and performs base-level procedures as assigned (i.e. – pipetting, cell and tissue culture, etc.)Maintains laboratory notebookUnderstands and applies basic scientific techniquesConducts analysis of results and may begin interpretation of resultsSets up and prepares routine experiments as directedPrepares lab reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipmentAssists with organizing materials for publication or presentationMaintains and orders suppliesAssists with mouse colony maintenance, animal handling, and performing dissectionsSKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Ability to work independently and as a team memberWorking knowledge of clinical research protocolsAbility to perform multiple tasks independentlyEDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree required.EXPERIENCE:New graduates with some lab experience (via coursework, internships, etc.) or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Research Technician I position outlined above.Massachusetts General Hospital is an Affirmative Action Employer.
