Job Description - Research Technician (3289540)Research Technician - (3289540)Position available to study muscular dystrophy and focuses on the cellular and molecular events associated with muscle dysfunction. Individual will participate in all activities associated with the research lab, including, but not limited to, basic research in molecular and cell biology of muscle cell growth, differentiation, and regeneration;

in vivo

imaging and therapeutic studies in mice; screening of transgenic and knockout mouse lines; mouse husbandry; biomarker discovery; general lab duties; lab meeting, journal club discussions, and seminars. Individual will perform complex laboratory assignments, planning and conducting a complete project of limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Prepares basic solutions and performs base-level procedures as assigned (i.e. – pipetting, cell and tissue culture, etc.)Maintains laboratory notebookUnderstands and applies basic scientific techniquesConducts analysis of results and may begin interpretation of resultsSets up and prepares routine experiments as directedPrepares lab reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipmentAssists with organizing materials for publication or presentationMaintains and orders suppliesA Research Technician II performs the duties of a Research Technician I (above) and may also:Execute protocols of non-routine experimentsAssist the PI(s) with determining the most suitable methodologyPerform basic design and modification of protocolsCalculate, transcribe and analyze dataPrepare and present reportsOrganize and summarize acquired data, using scientific and statistical techniques.Organize and/or draft material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts and other documents for publication and/or presentation.Participate in the design of experiments or field work.SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Ability to work independently and as a team memberWorking knowledge of clinical research protocolsAbility to perform multiple tasks independentlyThe Research Technician II should also possess:Analytical skills and the ability to resolve technical problemsAbility to interpret acceptability of data resultsWorking knowledge of data management programsDemonstrated competence in research techniques and methodologiesEDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree required.EXPERIENCE:New graduates with some lab experience (via coursework, internships, etc.) or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Research Technician I position outlined above.Those with a minimum of 1 year of

directly related

work experience will be considered for a Research Technician II position.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:A Research Technician II may serve as a team leader to lab assistants and Research Technician I’s.
