Job details
Research Scientist- Strain Development and Bioprocess
Main Functions
The Research Scientist will join a team involved in genetically engineering microbes for the production of value-added molecules and will report to the project leader. The selected individual will apply molecular biology, biochemistry, and fermentation science skills to engineer a variety of microbes (bacteria, yeast, fungi), evaluate associated genotypes and phenotypes, as well as provide documentation of the process and results. The candidate will regularly communicate results in written and oral presentations within the team as well as the organization. The candidate will perform this research in support of company goals and priorities in conjunction with their manager and other team members, and will assist in solving research problems.Research topics include heterologous protein expression and characterization, protein engineering, classical genetics, fermentation, and method development of relevant screens and selections for specific applications.Tasks associated with this position also include:Genetic engineering of yeast, bacteria, and filamentous fungi;Designing molecular constructs, cloning, and transformations;Carrying out strain screening and molecule activity assays;Small scale fermentations;Design, implementation, analysis, and reporting of experiments;Developing and validating new methodology to achieve technical goals;Training team members in new lab procedures;Protein engineering to enhance desired features;Authoring and presenting reports and presentations;Contributing to generation of IP.Technical skills
RequiredStrong core competency in molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or precision fermentationFamiliarity with microbial physiology, protein structural biology, and/or protein purificationFamiliarity with interpretation and use of computational biology toolsPersonal abilities
RequiredEnjoy participating in multi-disciplinary projects and interacting with molecular biologists, bioprocess scientists, process engineers, analytical chemists, and protein scientists to deliver high quality data in support of tackling complex problemsDemonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, both independently and as part of a team with shared goalsAbility to communicate progress and difficulties with team membersHave a desire to execute science experiments at the benchEnjoy troubleshooting, optimizing, and designing workflowsOtherExcellent oral and written communication skillsSelf-awareness, accountability, and willingness to take ownership of outcomesStrong organizational and time management skillsDependability and attention to detailDesire for personal growthEagerness for learning new skillsOrganization
