The digital records archivist is responsible for the management, organization, and preservation of the born-digital records of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association (MVLA) and George Washington’s Mount Vernon. This is a new position, created to gain control over the significant amount of born-digital records generated by Mount Vernon staff and to preserve these records in tandem with the analog material already housed in the archives of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. Reporting to the Technical Services Librarian, the incumbent will create policies for born-digital records management and preservation across the estate, working with all departments to establish a records retention schedule. The digital records archivist will play a key role in facilitating a new, estate-wide document management system and provide guidance or assistance with file storage management, file naming conventions, and record retrieval and preservation. A long-term goal for the position is implementing a digital archives program to coordinate the transfer, ingest, arrangement and description of all the MVLA’s historic, born-digital records. Working closely with IT and library colleagues, the digital records archivist must have comprehensive knowledge of archival best practices, as well as technical expertise to effectively manage a large born-digital records repository.The position is exempt status and will report to the Technical Services Librarian. Salary range starts at $70,000. Application review will start in mid-December.Responsibilities:

Establish a records retention schedule in cooperation with staff from all departments across Mount VernonCreate and implement policies for born-digital records management and preservationProvide training or guidance to employees on file naming and storage strategiesAssist with clean-up of inactive and duplicate filesAssess inactive records for transfer to archivesMonitor long-term health of digital filesServe as a lead staff member in the roll-out of a document management system for the estateImplement a digital archives repository with Preservica or similar digital archives toolEstablish procedures and workflows for appraisal, transfer, ingest, and other processing of born-digital archivesMonitor files for fixity and file format obsolescenceAssist staff or researchers with document retrieval and access when necessary and appropriate.Required Qualifications:

MLS, MLIS, or equivalent from an ALA accredited schoolProven knowledge of best practices in born-digital records management and digital archivesMinimum 3-5 years of successful work experience in the field of archives or records managementExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to perform work independently as well as part of an integrated teamOrganized and detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlinesDemonstrated experience with document management systems and digital archives tools or systemsKnowledge of descriptive metadata standardsA record of scholarly engagement and professional serviceDesirable Qualifications:

CA (Certified Archivist) or CRM (Certified Records Manager) preferred or willingness to obtainDAS (Digital Archives Specialist) or willingness to obtainSome experience with ArchivesSpace and CONTENTdmExperience applying descriptive metadata standards (DACS, EAD, LCSH, AAT, LCNAF, etc.)Benefits:
