Digital Archivist IPOSITION SUMMARY:This position reports to the [Digital Archivist/Provincial Archivist] and will be required to undertake and refine measures for preservation of born-digital documents and digitization of paper analog documents in ways that represent archival best practice. This includes the creation, storage, preservation, organization, and description of these materials.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Support all born-digital and digitization activities and programs of the Provincial Archives, particularly those involving the ingest, processing, and safe storage of electronic records.Work with the Digital Archivist for creation, ingest, processing, storage, and maintenance of incoming digital and digitized materials, ensuring that they are processed into the same record groups as the paper collections that currently populate the bulk of our repository. This will include running checksum tests to ensure that stored materials do not become corrupt and periodically working to update procedures for preservation, storage, naming, confidentiality, and security protocols.Digitization of paper and photographic analog materials and providing input for appropriate and worthwhile digitization projects within the collections.Assist with reference and research requests related to both digital and analog materials.Work with the Digital Archivist, Provincial Archivist, and appropriate outside partners for sharing digitized resources. This includes collaborating with archivists and librarians from outside organizations on shared resource and ownership agreements.Collaborate with other archivists of the Daughters of Charity and the Seton Shrine for exhibits and displays as needed.Process archival records according to current archival best practices.Assist in updating sister files.Staff reading room as needed.Other duties as assigned.OTHER ACCOUNTABILITIES:Maintains Confidentiality: Ability to maintain professional confidentiality.Achieves Values-Based Results: Sets high goals, consistent with Daughters of Charity and professional values for personal and group accomplishment; tenaciously works to meet or exceed those goals; measures progress and derives satisfaction from goal achievement and continuous improvement.Models Integrity and Values: Genuinely cares about people, especially persons who are poor and vulnerable; communicates openly and honestly to foster trust relationships among colleagues and those served; recognizes and understands that leadership is a call to serve others; fosters personal growth, creativity, and demonstrates reverence and dedication. Works collaboratively with the staff to plan an aggressive training schedule, serving as a model to others on the staff.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:Office EnvironmentEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:This position requires a graduate degree in Library and Information Science, Archives and Records Management, Public History, or a related discipline with graduate level or professional development coursework in archives. Undergraduate degree only with accompanying certification through the Society of American Archivists or Academy of Certified Archivists along with experience will be considered. It also requires at least one year of experience (including education, volunteer, and internship work) assessing, appraising, or describing digital content. Candidate should also possess knowledge of digital preservation issues and best practices, as well as a desire and willingness to stay abreast of ever-changing archival technology and standards.Preferred qualifications include:Certificate or certification through the Society of American Archivists or Academy of Certified Archivists.Knowledge and experience working with a variety of scanners, including overhead and FADGI quality scanners.Experience with conservation of traditional formats such as manuscripts, artwork, and photographs.Ability to read French is a benefit but not a requirement.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of digital preservation standards and systems, including ingest, arrangement, description, and naming conventions.Demonstrated knowledge of digital preservation issues, strategies, standards, and best practices.Knowledge of copyright laws and privacy issues.Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies; ability to relate appropriately to a broad and diverse clientele.Willingness to learn state-of-the-art digital best practices and digitization as those technologies come more into play with the Provincial Archives' future collections policies. Knowledge to work with IT specialists to achieve Archives' technological requirements.Knowledge of the history of the Catholic Church in the United States, communities of women religious, or the Vincentian charism preferred.
