The position may be renewed annually for a total commitment of up to three years, contingent upon individual performance and continued funding.Setting: The EHDL is housed within the Department of EOH at Program in Public Health, College of Health Sciences, University of California, Irvine, a top ten public research university in the United States. The research conducted within the EHDL involves mouse and human subjects and has the central focus on the role of environmental factors from air, water and diet in causing communicable and non-communicable diseases. Most studies are centered on the Gut microbiome liver axis and/or Gut microbiome-liver brain axis and its crosstalk with host metabolome and epigenome. The research carried out in this laboratory is cross disciplinary and collaborations with departments within the school and with prominent research universities within the USA or abroad exist.The University of California, Irvine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer advancing inclusive excellence. Qualifications: All of the following are required:A PhD in Physiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Toxicology and Pharmacology, or a closely related field of study (by June, 2024)A firm understanding of working with microbiome, host pathogen interactions, Cloning, expression and purification of proteins, Real-Time PCR, native-PAGE & SDS-PAGE, spectroscopy (UV-VIS), protein identification by western blot, peptide mass fingerprinting & MALDI-TOF is required.Knowledge of handling mouse models and in vivo experimental design experience is highly desirable.Knowledge of using immunological techniques both in vivo and in vitro using cell lines and hybridomas is a prerequisite for this position. It is expected that the candidate will have experience in handling brightfield microscopy, Fluorescence Microscopy and confocal microscopy.Responsibilities/Qualifications:

All of the following will be expected:Managing a team of graduate research assistants (MS and Ph.D. level)Assisting with data collection, analysis, and interpretationPerforming biochemical, lab-based techniques routine for Biochemistry, Immunology, rodent models of disease.Assisting with manuscript writingPresenting data at national/international conferencesContributing new ideas for current and future projectsCoordinating interactions and collaborations with other laboratories
