private and group percussion substitute teacher

to continue instruction

beginning the week of September 23rd, 2024

for percussion students as well as teach two group classes, Beginning Drums and Percussion Fundamentals.Job Summary

This is a great opportunity for candidates with demonstrated teaching experience who are looking for community, growth opportunities, and pathway to regular part-time work. The ideal candidate will have an inclusive and culturally responsive teaching style that reflects CMCB's three curricular pillars: Musical Artistry, Social-Emotional Development, and Cultural Inclusion. Additional teaching opportunities are available for candidates with the ability to play and teach multiple instruments and/or candidates who are interested in teaching in the public schools.Status : Temporary part time hourly, exemptStart Date : ASAPSchedule : In person, outstanding need of 6 hours per week: Tuesdays 4:30PM - 7:00PM, Wednesdays 4:00PM-4:30PM, and Thursdays 3:45PM-6:00PMSpecific Responsibilities

Group Class InstructionEngage students through supporting a growing love and appreciation of musicDevelop and implement curriculum that incorporates basic skills and fundamentals of percussionTeach students according to curricular guidelinesComplete attendance in registration software accuratelyMaintain open communication with parents/caregivers and students via email to support educational progressCommunication and ParticipationAttend Department meetings and the annual all-faculty meeting as scheduled( optional ) Participate in department events, competitions, recitals, and concertsJob Qualifications & Requirements

QualificationsMust have Bachelor's degree in music performance/education with knowledge in the field of percussion performance/pedagogy or equivalent experienceMinimum of 2 years teaching experience, including demonstrated experience teaching ages 4-7 in a private setting, and/or knowledge of early childhood percussion pedagogies and general classroom managementMust be adept at and comfortable with working in a culturally diverse environment with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as pedagogical and professional valuesInterest in the following focus areas: Culturally Responsive Teaching, Creative Youth Development - Student Voice/Agency, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)Availability in-personExcellent interpersonal skillsEffective communication skills in conversing with students, families, and colleaguesDemonstrated ability to actively listen to and learn from othersAbility to adapt to individual needs of students and provide constructive feedbackProficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Forms, and Google Sheets)PreferredKnowledge in a diverse range of stylesFluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and/or Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese) is

desirableExperience teaching in a public school or community music school settingPhysical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50-75% of the time. They need to occasionally move around the space to access teaching supplies and instruments. They must also converse with students in a normal classroom setting and discern and recognize changes in tone, pitch, rhythm, and volume. They may occasionally move or transport supplies and instruments up to 10 pounds.Application Instructions
