private and group piano instructor

to continue instruction for current and new piano students. This is a great opportunity for candidates with demonstrated teaching experience who are looking for community, growth opportunities, and a compensation structure that also includes paid administrative time and paid professional development opportunities. The ideal candidate will have an inclusive and culturally responsive teaching style that reflects CMCB's three curricular pillars: Musical Artistry, Social-Emotional Development, and Cultural Inclusion. Additional teaching opportunities are available for candidates with the ability to play and teach multiple instruments and/or candidates who are interested in teaching in the public schools.Status : Part time hourly, exemptStart Date : Week of August 19, 2024Schedule : In person, 10-15 hours per week, Monday - Tuesday (3:00PM-8:00PM - full availability) and Saturday (9:00AM-12:30PM, 4 group classes - full availability)Specific ResponsibilitiesGroup Class Instruction and ManagementEngage students through supporting a growing love and appreciation of musicDevelop and implement curriculum that incorporates basic skills and fundamentalsAssist in recruitment activitiesStudio Management and RetentionTeach students according to curricular guidelinesPrepare students for performance events and opportunitiesHold at least one studio recital during the school yearComplete attendance in registration software accuratelyMaintain open and regular communication with parents/caregivers and students via email to support educational progressCommunication and ParticipationAttend Department meetings and the annual all-faculty meeting as scheduledParticipate in department events, competitions, recitals, and concertsFacilitate student participation in musical opportunitiesQualificationsMust have Bachelor's degree in music performance/education with knowledge in the field of piano performance/pedagogy or equivalent experienceMinimum of 2 years teaching experience, including demonstrated experience teaching ages 4-7 in a private setting, and/or knowledge of early childhood piano pedagogies and general classroom managementMust be adept at and comfortable with working in a culturally diverse environment with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as pedagogical and professional valuesInterest in the following focus areas: Culturally Responsive Teaching, Creative Youth Development - Student Voice/Agency, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)Availability in-person with maximum one pre-planned absence per semesterExcellent interpersonal skillsEffective communication skills in conversing with students, families, and colleaguesDemonstrated ability to actively listen to and learn from othersAbility to adapt to individual needs of students and provide constructive feedbackProficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Forms, and Google Sheets)PreferredKnowledge in a diverse range of stylesFluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and/or Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese) is

desirableProficient to strong sight reading skillsExperience teaching in a public school or community music school settingPhysical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50-75% of the time. They need to occasionally move around the space to access teaching supplies and instruments. They must also converse with students in a normal classroom setting and discern and recognize changes in tone, pitch, rhythm, and volume.
