Assistant Principal – Everett Alternative High SchoolThe Assistant Principal of Everett Alternative High School will be responsible for all alternative educational programming to include the continuation of high school, transitional supports, and online learning/credit recovery options for eligible students ages 16 to 22 years. The Assistant Principal will assist in leadership, direction, supervision, and accountability in the areas of culturally responsive, trauma-informed restorative practices, student educational development and achievement, analysis of student achievement data, safety and security, staff development and evaluation, community building, school facilities, staffing, financial management, student support services, and articulation with the Everett Public School District.REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum: Master’s Degree in Education from an accredited institution in Elementary or Secondary AdministrationMinimum: 5 years of experience in a public-school secondary level setting (high school)Minimum: 2-3 years of successful experience in an alternative educational setting (high school)Minimum: Principal/Assistant Principal (Grades 9-12) licensure - Department of Elementary and Secondary EducationSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent/School Committee may find appropriatePREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Familiarity with an urban school districtPrior experience in an educational leadership roleTraining in educator/employee evaluationKnowledge of the local, state, and national student support services and agencies available to at-risk youthPrior experience with at-risk students in alternative settings and knowledge of responsive crisis intervention strategiesCANDIDATES MUST POSSESS

Strong background in curriculum with successful experience in program design, evaluation, and managementAwareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs for students and familiesA proven record in the implementation and management of student discipline and curricular/co-curricular activitiesSuperior skills in articulating the goals and objectives of the alternative high school to the Everett communityKnowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and effective instructional strategies for at-risk studentsEffective communication skills with staff and parents/guardians/familiesKnowledge of the data cycle and data analysis for strategic action planning and accountabilityBilingual preferred; at a minimum, the ability to understand and to make oneself understood to all individualsExtensive knowledge of Massachusetts student and staff reporting (EPIMS/SIMS) systemsAbility to prepare for, schedule, and administer MCAS and ACCESS assessment/testingMULTICULTURAL/BILINGUAL

Ability to perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain accurate records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents/guardians, other school and district personnel. Ability to develop/implement/maintain data collection (progress monitoring) systems for students with behavior disorders and other exceptionalities. Ability to demonstrate budget preparation and control, and meet schedules and deadlines.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborates with school staff to develop intervention and prevention strategies for students and develops individualized service plans to facilitate achievement; conducts and leads multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) conferences with students, parents/guardians, and teachers.Develops prevention and intervention strategies; assesses students and families; provides case management; monitors student progress; and makes referrals as appropriate.Serves as a liaison between Everett Alternative High School and such agencies as human services, court services, community services board, and/or community based mental health agencies regarding academic, behavioral, and/or social emotional concerns affecting a student’s progress in the educational setting and community.Conducts staff development activities geared toward prevention and intervention initiatives.Establishes a rapport with students in the alternative school settings that is conducive to pro-social skill development.Maintains frequent, meaningful parental communication and develops proactive partnerships between the students/families and Everett Public Schools to support academic achievement and pro-social behaviors.Works cooperatively with Everett Alternative High School staff to identify students’ strengths and skill deficits specifically interfering with educational achievement.Consults with Everett Alternative High School staff to provide techniques, methods, and strategies to support students’ development of appropriate replacement behaviors.Assist with writing individualized education programs (IEPs) and attends IEP/student support meetings as appropriate.Serves as a consultant and collaborator with educators in the alternative high school and keeps personnel informed of relevant information regarding students as appropriate.Demonstrates sound knowledge of functional behavior assessment process as an improvement lever for positive behavior interventions and the implementation of successful student support practices.Adheres to ethical and professional boundaries, obligations, and standards.Recommends staff for hire and dismissal, provides appropriate onboarding and orientation processes, and supervises/evaluates staff accordingly to build the capacity of the full Everett Alternative High School education team.Serves on appropriate leadership teams to support the mission and practices of the Everett Public School District, including budget processes, securing staff, organizing student admissions and registration, site supervision, instructional practices, superintendent and school committee communications, and resource allocations.Participates in the development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents/guardians, and community members.Develops, maintains, and uses EPS information systems to maintain and records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic/behavioral indicators; supervises the monitoring and reporting of student attendance, teacher attendance, course grades, and investigations as outlined by district, state, and federal mandates.Observes employee performance, records classroom observations, and conducts evaluation conferences as outlined by the Everett Public Schools Evaluation Plan (ETA bargaining agreement).Plans and assists with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities; coordinates transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services as appropriate.Ensures appropriate student management systems and adequate supervision during non-instructional time/periods.Develops a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior; ensures that school/district policies are uniformly observed and that student disciplinary consequences are appropriate and equitable.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Participate in professional development and inservice learning to improve skills related to job assignment.Articulate the EAHS mission to the Everett community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.Establish and maintain positive relationships with community organizations and institutions which may provide education resources to the EAHS operational unit.Work with Special Education case managers and staff to ensure students are meeting their IEP goals.Work and plan with the instructional staff to ensure that all instructional requirements of district policies, and state and federal laws are implemented.
