to join the already awesome team taking the department to the next level of excellence!The Residence Hall Director is a

live-on position

responsible for the overall development and administration of a supportive learning environment within an assigned residential community ranging in size from 350 to 750 residents. The Residence Hall Director plays an integral role in shaping the experience of residential students at Georgia State University by developing a premier residential experience that supports the academic mission of Georgia State, and the co-curricular learning goals and student engagement activities of the Division of Student Engagement. University Housing is committed to utilizing Atlanta as an urban classroom to foster a supportive and challenging learning environment for resident students.WHAT MAKES Housing A GREAT PLACE?A flexible work environmentGenerous benefits, including health, dental, vision, tuition assistance, retirement, etc.A knowledge-sharing organization that works collaboratively with diverse partners.Professional development opportunity and mentorshipA rapidly growing center within an academic settingHERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DOCommunity Development, Advising, and Residential Student EngagementResponsible for the overall development and management of assigned residential communityFoster a supportive, inclusive environment through community programming and contact with students and staffResponsible for implementing the residential curriculum and academic initiatives and services for residential studentsAssist Assistant Residence Hall Director(s) and Resident Assistants to develop intentional plans to further the academic, social, and personal development of residentsSupport the Community Councils by attending planned officer retreats, meetings, and programming eventsCounsel, advise and make referrals to residential students as appropriate and follow up to ensure satisfactory resolutionOversee community policy education and enforcement initiativesStaff Supervision, Recruitment, Training, and DevelopmentRecruit, select, train, supervise and evaluate student staff (Resident Assistants). Some Residence Hall Directors will also supervise a full-time Assistant Residence Hall DirectorDevelop, implement and support training efforts for student staff within the community and departmentParticipate in the recruitment, selection, and training of professionals, graduate and undergraduate staffParticipate in departmental/divisional training and development activitiesCommunicate regularly with Assistant Residence Hall Director and Resident Assistants, via weekly staff meetings, one-on-ones, email, and daily personal contactAdministrativeRespond through personal contact with students, parents, faculty, administrators and other stakeholders to resolve issues, answer questions and clarify policyServe on departmental and University committees, task forces and participate in other professional development activitiesParticipate in a rotation of 24-hour on-call coverage during the academic year, including university break periods for housing, summer school, and/or conferencesEstablish and maintain communication with supervisors, Dean of Student's Office and Counseling Center concerning students of concern who live in your residence hallsPrioritize and monitor the program and administrative budgetsContribute to the department's continuous quality improvement efforts and customer service trainingPerform other duties consistent with the purpose of the position as assignedMinimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience.Preferred Hiring Qualifications:Experience supervising para-professional staffExperience working in a highly diverse environmentExperience working closely with students in a higher education settingExperience dealing with sensitive and confidential issuesDesired Qualifications:Master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, or closely related field1-2 years of professional experience in housing/student affairs, postmastersExperience supervising graduate and/or professional staffExperience implementing student learning and program outcomes assessmentLocation:
