WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR TRAINER - PART-TIMEOLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGEContinuing Education Department of Aquatics

Olive-Harvey College, One of the City Colleges of Chicago, is seeking Experienced Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT) Educators with sound knowledge of the American Red Cross (ARC) Basic Swim Instructor (BSI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Courses. The BSI/WSI Trainer will offer Face to Face and/or Blended Online ARC BSI and/or WSI courses to train Instructor Candidates who have successfully demonstrated the course prerequisites at a level consistent with the desired ARC Certification. The WSIT will evaluate and offer appropriate teaching techniques, swim skills, water safety rules, and lesson plans to Instructor Candidates to teach group and/or private Learn-to-Swim lessons to participants of varying ages and skill levels. This position serves to inspire, motivate, and empower individuals of all skill levels to learn in an environment that is safe and comfortable to accomplish educational goals.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESAdhere to the American Red Cross Instructor Development Training ProgramEvaluate each Instructor Candidate's Skill Performance to Ensure Competency & Consistency with Level Performance Chart of anticipated ARC CertificationTeach Aquatic Safety In, On, & Around Water and Drowning PreventionIntegrate Industry Research and Best Practices into the Swimming & Water Safety ProgramHelp Instructor Candidates improve their Teaching Skills to Better Assess Swimming Participants of varying ages and aquatic abilities to teach to the level best suited for the participants' unique swimming style and progressive developmentEducate Instructor Candidates on the Resources available for Water Safety ProgramsMonitor Instructor Candidates to Prevent Accidents or Potential InjuriesRecognize and Respond Swiftly and Efficiently to All Aquatic EmergenciesComplete necessary Training Reports, Aquatic Daily Reports and/or Incident FormsMust remain current with ARC Basic & Advanced CertificationsMaintain a Clean and Safe Aquatic FacilityEffectively work as a TEAM with other Aquatic Instructors, Lifeguards, Facilities and ManagementParticipate in In-Service TrainingFlexibility to work early morning, day, evening, and/or weekend hours as neededMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or GEDAmerican Red Cross Certification: Water Safety Instructor*American Red Cross Certification: First Aid, and CPR with AED*American Red Cross Certification: Water Safety Instructor Trainer*Pre-Employment Aquatic Skills Assessment (ARC Level 4)PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSMaster’s Degree in Sport & Recreation Management or Related FieldAmerican Red Cross Certified Lifeguard (LGI / LGIT)**Current, Verifiable, and in Good Standing with American Red CrossWe are an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.Thank you for your interest in City Colleges of Chicago!
