PURPOSE STATEMENT
Partnering with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, the Director of Development creates, implements, and manages the short- and long-term resource development strategy of the organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and support the development of strategic initiatives.
Lead and support the implementation of annual fundraising goals.
Support the Executive Director in researching, securing, and managing philanthropic relations.
Design and implement stewardship programs to expand the current donor base, increase levels of giving, and increase donor retention.
Lead donor prospect research and directly engage potential donors in the solicitation of contributions. The acquisition of major gifts from individuals ($5,000+) is an expectation of this position.
Lead philanthropic communications and manage donor and volunteer databases.
Serve as Lead in the development, planning, and execution of fundraisers and special events.
Direct the research and the development of local, federal, and corporate grant opportunities.
Write grant proposals, including budgets, in association with the Executive Director and program staff.
Guide the management, progress, and reporting requirements of grant awards.
Assist in the design and content writing of collateral marketing materials and website content.
Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector.
Assist with maintaining the Executive Director’s appointments/meetings in Development matters.
Provide direct oral and written communication and/or correspondences on behalf of the Executive Director and/or as a representative leader within the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in Business, Finance, Marketing, English Literature, or a related field and combined experience (5+ years) in fundraising and/or marketing/public relations in the nonprofit sector are required.
Five (5) years of formal leadership experience and/or demonstrated competence as a manager of personnel; major projects; and/or organizational processes.
Excellent interpersonal skills, intrapersonal maturity, and sensitivity to confidential matters.
Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet Knowledge Quest’s administrative requirements.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Excellent organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to support the planning, writing, and management of grants and budgets.
Strong research, data analysis, and reporting skills.
Strong presentation skills and experience in developing summation briefs, white papers, infographics, charts, graphs, and full reports.
Proficiency in computer operational skills including databases, Microsoft, and Google product suites on multiple operating systems.
Demonstrated ability to secure major gifts ($5,000) from individuals.
Demonstrated ability to lead within organizations or businesses with gross revenue of $1M+.
Demonstrated proficiency in donor management and volunteer management software.
Experience with program decision-making, strategic planning, and operational execution.
Ability to work independently, follow through on assignments, problem solve, and function competently and professionally within a framework of conflicting demands and competing timeframes.
Physical Requirements
Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) in addition to frequent walking and digital dexterity.
Environmental Conditions
Work is performed under basically normal working conditions as in a standard office environment within a place-based community organization.
