Job SummaryProvide direction and supervision to unit engaged in research, investigation or other technical operations. Will perform research for the university.Minimum Education and ExperienceA minimum of a PhD in a field directly related to research and a minimum of two years of experience/expertise as noted below; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred Education and ExperiencePhD in microbiology or related field; at least 3 years microbiology lab experience; experience with soil microbiology and with bacterial pathogens are highly preferred; experience in mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students in individual research experiences and/or CUREs is highly preferred; enthusiasm for working with junior scientists is essential. Internal candidates may be given preference.Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Plans, coordinates, and supervises assigned research projects.• Mentors junior scientists (undergraduate students, graduate students, and other lab personnel) on experiments with biosafety level 1 and 2 bacteria.• Mentors junior scientists in research and writing endeavors.• Assembles and analyzes research data. Assists in preparation of grant applications and manuscripts.• Coordinates laboratory purchasing and reviews budgets to monitor spending and funds availability. Assists in research funding management.• Coordinates materials transfer agreements and shipping of research materials to investigators outside the university.• Plans, experiments with, and performs trial runs of new course-based research experiences (CUREs) in the lab, including dissemination of these to the scientific field via conference presentations and manuscripts.• Performs other duties as assigned.Additional InformationThis position is on campus in person.What We Can OfferUT Dallas is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
