The Department of Applied Biomedical Sciences invites candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor of Anatomy within the University of the Incarnate Word’s School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM). This full-time, non-tenure, faculty position will teach in the area of Human Anatomy and is responsible for facilitating small interactive group sessions engaging in case-based and large group discussions. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities, as assigned. UIWSOM faculty members will have responsibility for teaching and participating in UIW and UIWSOM community service initiatives. It is also strongly preferred that research activity be consistent with the UIWSOM research/scholarly activity strategic plan, including medical education research. Faculty members assume the shared responsibility of developing, recommending, and executing all approved policies of instruction.Final rank will be based on qualifications of finalist.Essential Functions:Implement a learner-centered, case-based curriculum that involves the collaborative development and implementation of competency-based, innovative, and integrated teaching and learning strategies within a clinical context.Engage with and educate the community with respect to osteopathic medical educational practices and scholarship.Support clinically relevant, community-based translational research, social justice-based research, and medical education research and scholarship, consistent with the UIWSOM Research and Scholarly Activity Strategic Plan.Integrate national trends in medical education and his/her discipline into innovative educational practice.Serve on committees and subcommittees as appointed by the Dean.Actively participate in professional development activities to improve academic skills and facilitation of a medical curriculum.Undergo training to qualify as a facilitator in the case-based and problem-based learning program and UIWSOM curriculum delivery methods.Comply with UIW Faculty Handbook processes and policies.Perform all other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Strong interpersonal skills and the enthusiasm and motivation to learn and to contribute to the growth and development of UIWSOM.Commitment to social justice and values-driven curricula.Strong ability to collaborate effectively with full-time and community-based faculty, administration, staff, and peers.Strong ability to engage, support, and lead diverse groups.Demonstrated proficiency in ability to collect and manage data to track performance outcomes to ensure comparable educational experiences.Strong team building and conflict resolution skills.Ability to strategically prioritize resources necessary for program support.Demonstrated proficiency of knowledge and commitment to current trends in medical education and educational technologies.Ability to teach in a collaborative integrated case-based model, in which biomedical sciences are taught in a clinical context.Strong desire for self-improvement and motivation to deliver high quality results.Ability to operate within the UIWSOM framework of lifelong learning through collaborative scholarship, innovative educational excellence, and learner-centered curricula.Strong knowledge base and experience in his/her discipline as it relates to the practice of medicine.Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.Required Education:

PhD in Human Anatomy, DO, MD, or other terminal degree in related field.Required Work Experience:Evidence of teaching excellence and progressive leadership experience in a health profession’s educational setting.Demonstrated track record commensurate with an appointment as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.Experience in dissection and prosection in clinical human anatomy.Experience in development of formative, summative, and competency-based assessment in the basic medical sciences.Experience working with diverse teams.Experience in computer-assisted delivery of course content.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with case-based and active learning methods in both small and large group settings.Background and experience in neuroanatomy and histology.Record of championing and implementing medical education innovations.Record of educational scholarship.Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations:
