Position DescriptionCalico is seeking a scientist to join our Protein Science team to support Calico’s research in aging and age-related diseases. The candidate will work closely with computational modeling scientists to investigate structure-activity relationships to drive therapeutic design and optimization. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, work autonomously with a variety of experimental techniques, and be comfortable presenting results to cross-functional teams.

Position RequirementsPh.D. in biochemistry, biology, structural biology, biophysics, chemical biology or a related discipline and 0-2 years of additional training in an industry or academic settingA track record of experience in protein biochemistry as evidenced by high profile publicationsStrong experience designing and conducting in-vitro protein activity assays using a variety of formats such as fluorescence and western blot-basedExperience with enzyme kinetics and evaluating IC50 values for various inhibitor modalities (small molecules, peptides, and biologics) would be an advantageExperience with binding assays using SPR, BLI, or ITC would be an advantageStrong expertise in protein construct design, protein expression in bacteria and mammalian cells, and protein purification of secreted and intracellular proteins using AKTA FPLCs and various chromatography procedures is requiredA thorough understanding of protein structure and function and experience with molecular viewing software (PyMOL or Chimera) is required and an understanding of experimental structure determination by X-ray crystallography or cryo-EM would be an advantageExperience using an electronic notebook would be a plusExperience working with CROs would be a plusAccountable, detail-oriented, and able to multitaskSelf-motivated and able to work independently in a cross-functional team environmentMust be willing to work onsite five days per weekThe estimated base salary range for this role is $127,000 - $135,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
