Definition of Classification:The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach in the planning, administering, and evaluating of various aspects of the operations of the Men's Basketball programs. Also serves as a recruiter for the varsity and junior varsity Basketball programs and assists with court instruction, in both programs, as assigned.Reporting to the Head Coach, is responsible for furthering the mission of the University, the Department of Physical Education and Athletics, and the Bulldog Men's Basketball programs. The Assistant Basketball Coach must comply with all University, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rules and policies.May be required to travel for extended periods of time for athletic contests and recruiting activities. Flexibility to work nights and weekends as required by the teams' schedules.Duties and Responsibilities:The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Functions as an active team member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.Serves as a recruiter for both the varsity and junior varsity Men's Basketball program; identifies, evaluates, and recruits qualified prospective student-athletes.Assists with all administrative aspects of the sport programs including completion of all administrative paperwork, team travel logistics, creation of practice plans, business operation, compliance, equipment, facilities, and events.Maintains effective communication with prospective student-athletes and Admissions Office.Arranges and conducts on and off campus visits with prospective student-athletes.Assists with on-floor coaching, training, and skill development for both the varsity and junior varsity programs.Plans, executes, and maintains all aspects of the program's social media sites (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).Scouts' opponents and prepares scouting reports for head coach and team members.Runs and coordinates elite camps and high school tournaments on campus.Teaches physical education activity courses in accordance with assigned load during the academic year.Accepts a collateral assignment (i.e., assist with game management, student-athlete education etc.) within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualification GuidelinesAny combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:Experience/Training/Education:RequiredBachelor's degree.Three years of basketball coaching experience.A valid California Class C CA drivers' license with a good driving record is required.

Note:

Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment. A valid California Class “C” driver's license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED.

Knowledge and Skills:Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules.Knowledge and understanding of the NCAA Division III philosophy.Possess the ability to attract outstanding students to the University.Knowledge and understanding of the role of physical education, recreational sports, and athletics in a private, liberal arts academic setting.Strong interpersonal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with athletic participants.Ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.Excellent organizational skills, and detail oriented.Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.Follow appropriate safety rules and regulation.Knowledge of personal computers and personal computer software and applications.Aptitude to learn new and evolving technology.Ability to recommend appropriate courses of action within established guidelines.Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations.Understand, interpret, explain, and apply applicable federal and state policies and laws.Ability to foster strong, positive relationships and align both internal and external resources to achieve university objectives.Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
