Horne Endowed Professorship in AccountingSchool of AccountancyJob SummaryThe University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track faculty position in the School of Accountancy to begin in August 2025. The person hired for this position will hold the Horne Endowed Professorship in Accounting for excellence in accounting research. The position is based on the Hattiesburg campus (Hattiesburg, MS). We are a multi-site university; therefore, the candidate may be required to teach at the Gulf Park campus (Long Beach, MS) and/or teach online/hybrid courses using various forms of technology.

Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesResearch

duties and responsibilities will include publishing in highly rated

accounting journals, providing leadership in elevating the research

profile of the School of Accountancy, and guiding and mentoring other

faculty in research.Duties

and responsibilities of this position include excellence in teaching

undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting and service to the School

of Accountancy, College of Business and Economic Development, university,

and the academy.Teaching

duties will be in our bachelor's in accounting, Master of Professional

Accountancy, and/or Master of Business Administration programs based on

need. All areas of teaching will be considered, but the need is greatest

in financial accounting. Classes may be on either campus (Hattiesburg or

Long Beach, MS), online, or hybrid.The

individual selected must demonstrate a collegial and team-oriented

approach to research, teaching, and service. School of Accountancy faculty

are actively engaged in scholarly, professional, and pedagogical research

to extend the knowledge boundaries of the accounting discipline while

maintaining currency in their academic/professional areas(s) of accounting

expertise and the School's curriculum. In addition to excelling in

research, the successful candidate must be devoted to teaching excellence

at the graduate and undergraduate levels and must demonstrate a commitment

to student success. All faculty are also required to be actively engaged

in our assurance of learning processes.The

School of Accountancy holds separate AACSB accreditation. All faculty in

the School are required to contribute to the maintenance of separate AACSB

accreditation.Performs

other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsAn

earned doctorate in accounting or other appropriate related field from an

AACSB accredited institution.A

record of consistent publishing in highly rated accounting journals.Meeting

the requirements of a scholarly academic in accounting for AACSB

accreditation purposes.Evidence

of excellence in collegiate teaching and institutional/professional

service is required.Having

earned tenure at an AACSB accredited institution.Preferred QualificationsPractice

experience in the field of accounting or taxation.Professional

certification (CPA, CMA, etc.).LocationThe position is based on the Hattiesburg campus (Hattiesburg, MS). We serve accounting majors on both the Hattiesburg and the Gulf Park campuses. The Hattiesburg area has an estimated population of approximately 150,000 and is one of the fastest growing regions in the State of Mississippi.

The main campus is located in the culturally diverse and economically dynamic southern part of Mississippi about 65 miles from the Gulf Coast.
