Located in picturesque Washington, CT, the Teacher will be part of a cohesive, passionate, and dynamic team. The selected candidate will foster Devereux’s mission and values of quality care as well as providing top-notch and individualized therapeutic care for our students.Primary Responsibilities Include:Provide comprehensive specialized instruction to students in the Transition program ages 17-22Instruction to be provided across all environments including the classroom, community, building, and job sitesOrganize and provide developmentally appropriate special education programs for assigned studentsSupervise the non-certified staff and students assigned to the special education transition programAssist administration in the supervision and evaluation of non-certified staffSupport and assist students who experience difficulties with academics, social/emotional, behavioral, adaptive, daily living skills, and job skillsProvide instruction in functional academics, SEL, daily living skills, and job skillsCollaborate, coordinate, and facilitate IEP meetings and transition plans for students with team membersDevelop and facilitate positive behavior support plans for students as neededImplement and oversee PBIS frameworkParticipate as an integral member of the IEP and educational support teamCollaborate with related service providersAssist the student to reach obtainable postsecondary goals across a wide spectrumInterpret and promote the program and its purposes to the school and communityAssist in obtaining appropriate educational records, data, and other information necessary to the development of the educational planParticipate in parent and district conferencesParticipate in required staff development activitiesAssess individual student progress and identify appropriate program plans and modificationsUtilize staff, agency, and volunteer assistance in the implementation of the programUse a wide range of teaching methods, materials, techniques, and equipment applicable to supporting various types of disabilitiesSchedule activities to maintain a positive learning environment and to provide access to the least restrictive environmentMaintain current knowledge in their professional area including pertinent Federal Law and State Special Education regulationsAssist in and cooperate with necessary admission and enrollment activities and proceduresCollaborate with state and community agencies such as BRS, Ability Beyond, etc.Qualifications:Special education degree and experience preferred.Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required (Master's preferred).Connecticut Teaching certificate or eligibility to obtain a teaching certificate.3 years of experience within the field of education preferred.Devereux has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse and maintains policies and procedures to systematically reduce the risk of abuse to occur in our organization.
