Firearms Instructor to work in the Education and Training Section.

A Firearms Instructor plans, develops, organizes, conducts, and implements employee development, technical and multi-day entry-level firearms training, and annual firearms training programs for incumbent officers. This position also specializes in developing and delivering firearms training to police officer trainees (recruits in the police academy) and in-service police officers.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSDevelops and delivers firearms training, the use of deadly force instruction to police officer trainees (recruits in the police academy), and in-service police officers for annual firearms qualifications and qualifications or re-certification on less-lethal weapons.Plans, develops, and implements training programs, including writing and selecting training courses and manuals, collecting and assembling training materials, establishing the objectives and format of courses and programs, determining the needs of program participants, and designing programs for effective training.Evaluates training program objectives, procedures, and instruction, including reviewing the organization and content of training courses; the effectiveness of training materials and equipment; assessment of training courses by participants; and based on the review, develops, recommends and implements modifications in training programs and courses.Compiles and maintains training program records, writes reports, and evaluates activities for effectiveness.Schedules Academy Classes for firearm and tactical training instruction, in-service officers for annual handgun qualifications, shotgun certification, and qualification classes; conducts electrical weapon certification and re-certification classes, patrol rifle schools and bi-annual qualifications, LEOSA classes and recertifications.Develops, implements, interprets, and recommends training program policies and procedures changes.Operates classroom technology, including computerized multimedia projection and recording equipment.Performs related work as required.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION:

Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.ANDEXPERIENCE:

Retired Baltimore City Police Officer.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESAbility to operate a computer and learn the BPD Property Management System.Ability to work an assigned shift (0700-1500, 1500-2300, 2300-0700) with set days off.Ability to work one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) per week.Knowledge of Department forms and procedures.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Outstanding interpersonal skills.Knowledge of firearms safety, handling, and nomenclature.Knowledge of the principles and techniques of training adults.Knowledge of instructional design principles, techniques, materials, and resources.Knowledge of the organization and formats of training courses.Knowledge of commonly utilized business software programs.Skill in planning, developing, and conducting a wide variety of training programs.Skill in the utilization of common business software programs.Ability to attain MPCTC Firearms Instructor Certification.Ability to comprehend, interpret, and develop training programs and instruct others in a wide variety of subject areas.Ability to motivate others to improve job skills, knowledge, and behaviors.Ability to promote training programs.Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Ability to evaluate training programs and modify as needed.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.COMPENSATION:

Commensurate to education and experience. This position will serve for a period of one year beginning on the date of Board of Estimate approval. Future contract renewal is subject to position need and the availability of funds. This contractual position will remain posted until filled.NOTE:
