Thomas More serves approximately 2000 full- and part-time students on its beautiful campus in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.We invite applications from candidates possessing terminal degrees in Exercise Science or related fields of study for a non-tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position is increasing the number of departmental faculty due to the growth of the Department and start of related new programs. This position is renewable and intended to be long-term, based on continued enrollment in the program. The institution leaves open the possibility of becoming tenure-track based on successful development of these programs and the research and publishing commitment of the appointee.Faculty in general are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, service to the university, and an on-going program of research and publications, presentations at conferences, and collaborating with students on projects. Faculty actively participate in student advising and mentoring, assist in building community partnerships, engage in program assessment, contribute to hiring their colleagues, lead accreditation processes, and create opportunities for student-faculty collaborative research/service opportunities. The appointee must have an interest in helping to develop and lead programs in the fields related to Health Science at the undergraduate and graduate levels and should be enthusiastic about teaching and contributing to the training of future generations of health professionals, involving students in research, and developing education programs that reflect the future of health and healthcare.Areas of special interest include exercise science (e.g., exercise physiology, biomechanics, sports nutrition, etc.); aging, disability, chronic illness, and pharmacology (e.g., sports pharmacology); career-oriented certifications (e.g., C.S.C.S.) and innovation including human-centered design, community-based participatory research, and implementation science. The individual hired should be capable of effectively teaching introductory exercise science courses (e.g., kinesiology, exercise prescription, exercise physiology, sports nutrition, and/or biomechanics) and electives based on course demand.Candidates for the position must hold a doctoral degree in Exercise Science or a related field of study from a regionally accredited university.Additional Required Qualifications
Leadership skills, demonstrated with experience, and a vision for enhancing the academic components of an interdisciplinary department are essential.Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively and congenially with faculty colleagues and University leadership are required.Demonstrated potential for teaching foundational courses in the field (e.g., Exercise Physiology, Exercise and Sports Pharmacology, or related courses).Demonstrated potential for conducting research and publishing scholarship.Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues in related departments and with a diverse student population.Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated potential or willingness to implement multiple teaching modalities (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, online learning) and in varying modules (16-week, 8-week, and 4-week sessions).Demonstrated potential or willingness to implement evidence-based teaching strategies that are effective for diverse learners.Demonstrated potential or willingness to engage in research focused on a field related to Health Science.Interest in applying for external funding.Possession of the C.S.C.S. certification and in good standing with the NSCA.Duties
Provide high-quality instruction in the Department of Health Science that supports diverse student success.Develop a research agenda with high-quality outcomes leading to academic publications and discipline-specific conferences which may benefit diverse populations.Participate in the development of undergraduate and graduate curriculum.Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students.The faculty member is expected to share in program activities, including student advising, curriculum assessment, and student recruitment/admissions.Work collaboratively with others in the department, college, and university.Engage in activities that support diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus, in local and global communities, and the profession.Participate in service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.Application Process
