The Department of Urology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a Research Scientist or Senior Scientist to join the lab of Dr. Allison May. The candidate will be involved in the planning, design, execution, and management of research projects focusing on kidney cancer and tumor cell/immune cell interactions in kidney tumors. The successful candidate will contribute to developing research grant proposals and may pursue independent research funding that complements ongoing lab research. Successful candidates must have strong laboratory experience and effective oral and written communication skills as evidenced by a solid track record of scientific manuscripts and presentations.Essential Duties:Participate in designing and planning experiments, including identifying and ordering necessary reagents.Conduct basic and complex laboratory experiments and advanced molecular techniques.Collect, analyze, and interpret research data.Plan next experiments based on results of prior experiments.Organize results for regular updates on research progress.Assist in preparing research papers and manuscripts.Assist in preparing proposals for new funding.Manage laboratory activities and coordinate work assignments.Assist in training of lab members in laboratory techniques.Assist in management of lab projects.Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance.Assist in ordering of lab equipment/consumables/reagents.Perform additional assigned duties as needed.Minimum Requirements:Research Scientist:

Requires a doctoral degree or master's degree with significant experience.Senior Scientist:

Requires a doctoral degree.Preferred Qualifications:Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in a relevant biological/health science field is preferred. Preference given to applicants with post-doctoral research experience.The position is located in Charlottesville, VA and will remain open until filled.
