The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Arts & Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor of Sociology. We are seeking a student-centered candidate with demonstrated experience teaching courses in the sociology of health and medicine. Additionally, expertise in areas that complement our programmatic strengths—such as social inequality, race/ethnicity, and/or gender—is highly desirable. All candidates must provide evidence of effective and dynamic teaching. The successful candidate will join a vibrant department offering an undergraduate major and minor in Sociology, minors in Gerontology and Anthropology, and a 3+2 dual-degree program with an MSW.The position will begin August 2025.Responsibilities:Teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate students and help them to achieve their academic goalsTeach 4 courses (12 credits) per semester, including core courses in the Sociology curriculum, courses in the sociology of health and medicine, and additional courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.Intentional engagement in service to support the program, department, college, and university and to help advance the mission and values of the institutionThe successful candidate should be a strong communicator who is comfortable responding to requests for media interviews and commentary regarding their area of expertiseEducation Requirements:Ph.D. in Sociology or Medical Sociology at the time of appointment.Qualifications:Ability to effectively teach undergraduate-level courses in required areas in an engaging, innovative, and inclusive mannerCommitment to participating in a collaborative teaching environmentCommitment to inclusive teaching and communityCommitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic communityTO APPLY:All applications must be submitted electronically via our online system by October 28, 2024 for first consideration.Applications must be submitted electronically and must include:CVA philosophy of teaching statement (1-2 pages preferred) that describes how you create an inclusive classroom and your experiences fostering a collaborative learning environmentSamples of syllabi and course assignments relevant to preferred teaching areasCopies of original student evaluations or course observations by peers or graduate facultyContact information for three academic references (who will not be contacted without your permission)Quinnipiac University has a strong commitment to the principles and practices of diversity and inclusion throughout the University community and welcomes candidates who enhance that diversity.Quinnipiac University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
