12Position Summary

The QuEST Project (Quantifying Ecosystem exports across Space and Time) seeks applications for Research Scientist 2 position with a focus on data management and project coordination. We are looking for a motivated and organized person with a background in ecology, data analytics, biogeochemistry, and/or hydrology to join our team. This multi-institutional research program spans five states (NM, NV, AL, AR, NH) and seven institutions including collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The project will address hydrologic and biogeochemical change in headwater stream networks. Our approach integrates hydrologic modeling with complementary hydrologic and biogeochemical observations within five watersheds across the United States' cross-continental aridity gradient.Duties include:Collating and managing data collected by the project including large volumes of high-frequency sensor data and model outputs, analytical chemistry data.Working with project investigators to design and deliver data products to long-term open-access repositories.Training participants to track and quality control the various types of project data.Expertise in environmental sensors, hydrologic modeling, and/or geospatial data is required.Interest in participating in occasional fieldwork is desired.This position will be based at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. The position is available as early as January 2024 (flexible) and will be hired on a one-year contract with the expectation of renewal for additional years pending satisfactory performance.Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.Preferred Qualifications

Masters in biological sciences, geosciences, hydrology, water resources, data science, or closely related fieldPrevious experience integrating and analyzing multiple types of spatially and temporally extensive dataExperience working collaboratively with a team of scientists across multiple institutionsExperience with hydrologic modeling and/or environmental sensorsExcellent English verbal communication skillsPrevious experience working with large datasetsExperience with programming in R and/or Python, and collaborative version-controlled workflows including Git and/or Jupyter NotebooksExperience with developing data processing pipelines using R and/or PythonCampus
