Position summary:

Exciting opportunity for a career-minded water/wastewater engineer to join JMT's new and growing water/wastewater consultant engineering practice in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We are looking for an entrepreneurial-minded, enthusiastic, highly motivated individual, who has experience working with clients in south Florida on a variety of water/wastewater infrastructure projects. This individual will become a critical member of our water/wastewater team in Florida and be responsible for the technical delivery of major linear conveyance and/or water supply pump/lift station projects in a manner that ensures quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction.

You must possess a deep understanding of fundamental engineering principles and practices which you can adeptly apply to the planning, modeling, design, and construction of various infrastructure projects, such as inspection, repair, rehabilitation, or replacement of potable water distribution, reuse distribution, and wastewater collection systems; and/or improvements, upgrades or expansion of water supply pumping stations and wastewater lift stations. You should be self-directed and detail oriented; able to independently plan and lead engineering tasks and projects; comfortable working and collaborating as part of multi-disciplinary teams with individuals sitting in multiple offices; as well as able to effectively manage multiple concurrent assignments. You will also be expected to have experience preparing and updating project schedules; be able to develop, analyze, and document design elements; be knowledgeable of applicable design criteria, regulatory and permitting requirements; and be able to coordinate the efforts of a design team to determine requirements and incorporate feedback.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Preparing scopes of work as part of project or task proposals

Developing and monitoring schedules and budgets at the task or project-level

Developing conceptual designs; preparing preliminary engineering feasibility studies; designing and implementing field investigations, conditions assessments/inspections

Developing technical reports, studies, and proposals

Analyzing survey reports, maps, and other topographical or geologic data

Performing design computations

Preparing and compiling construction plans and specifications and construction cost estimates for various design projects in accordance with internal quality standards and that comply with client standard specifications and design guidelines

Preparing construction contract documents for advertisement

Ensuring company QA/QC protocols are followed and all deliverables conform to JMT's standards

Coordinating discipline work among internal team members and through subconsultants for specific tasks or entire projects

Consistently maintaining open communication channels and proactively reporting issues on projects

Providing construction phase engineering services including coordination with contractors and clients in the field during construction to ensure projects are executed in compliance with the specifications and drawings

Maintaining flexibility to support time-critical report development and production to meet demanding schedules

Coordinating routinely with clients, contractors, outside consultants, government agencies and internal staff throughout project execution

Providing mentorship and development advice to junior level staff

Building and maintaining professional relationships with existing and prospective clients by consistently providing highly responsive service and producing high quality deliverables on time and within negotiated project budgets

Assisting with proposal development as well as pursuit of new opportunities, particularly by providing technical input on proposals and developing labor hour estimates

Able to comfortably give technical presentations and/or lead technical workshops

Actively participate in professional organizations

Required Skills

Be able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-production environment, build successful team relationships and maintain positive coworker interactions

Demonstrate familiarity with hydraulic modeling, hydraulic designs, sewer rehabilitation, water and sewer design, water and wastewater treatment process design, engineering economics

Be able to prepare engineering plans and specifications and engineering reports

Be organized, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have flexibility to support time-critical report development and production in order to meet demanding schedules

Grasp general heavy construction principles

Be team-oriented and work well in a collaborative setting

Be comfortable giving presentations and possess strong writing skills

Have strong computer skills, including: proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint; and working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Revit (capability to use more than one is a plus)

Required Experience

5-10 Years' Experience

Have a current Professional Engineering license in Florida, or the ability to acquire a license through reciprocity within six months of employment

A bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, mechanical, or chemical engineering from an ABET accredited university

Knowledge of Federal, state and local jurisdiction permitting regulations

Experience working with clients in Florida

Qualifications Preferred

Have a current Professional Engineering License in Maryland or the ability to acquire a license through reciprocity within six months of employment

A passing grade on the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam

Possess environmental facilities operations-related experience

Able to effectively present technical concepts orally or in writing to less technical audiences

Have a working knowledge of ArcGIS, MS Project, and/or other MS business applications

Experience working with clients in Broward County (experience with clients in Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, Martin, Monroe, Lee, and Collier counties are a plus)

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
