Medina County ESD 6 operates in the western portion of Medina County and their primary offices are located in Hondo, TX.About the Role:
The Medina County Emergency Services District (ESD) # 6 Fire Chief will supervise, plan, coordinate, and direct daily operations to ensure operational readiness, safety, and competence. Specific areas of responsibility will include personnel, facilities, apparatus, and safety equipment.This role is highly interactive with the expectation that the Fire Chief will foster a positive work environment, work collaboratively with service providers, and develop a trusting relationship with the Board of Commissioners to deliver top-tier service to the community. In addition, the Fire Chief will assist the Board of Commissioners in establishing the budget and developing strategic plans. The Fire Chief will also respond to emergencies.Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will encompass experience, education, and demonstrated leadership in administration and operational areas. Experience in all ranks is desired, with time as a Deputy or Assistant Chief highly desired. Applicants should have the education and training to bring credibility to the position. Candidates should be knowledgeable of current best practices and the use of technology in the fire service.Required Education / Experience:
Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.Must possess IS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700, & 800.Must possess the following TCFP certifications or higher certifications:Intermediate FirefighterFire Officer I, with the ability to obtain Fire Officer II within 1 year of employmentInstructor IDriver/Pump OperatorAerial/Pump OperatorHazmat On-Scene Incident Commander (or obtain within 6 months)Must possess a valid State of Texas Class B or higher exempt Driver’s License.Must have a minimum of 10 years consecutive and progressive firefighting experience.Must have at least 2 years’ experience as a fire officer.Must be proficient in modern office systems and technology including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and similar programs.Must know principles of budget preparation.Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent.Residence requirement - Must be able to respond to emergencies within 20 minutes. Some flexibility is allowed.Preferred Education or Experience
Includes the required qualifications and/or experience plus:Associate’s degree or higher in Fire Science or a related field.Experience as a Fire Chief in an Emergency Services District (ESD).A combination of Required and Preferred Education or Experience may be considered.Salary / Benefits:
The salary for this role is $60,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.Health insurance covered at 100%, including dependents.3 weeks of Paid Time Off/Vacation.The Fire Chief will be provided with a Command Vehicle.Submission Process:
