Boone, NCPosition Summary InformationMinimum Qualifications:Ph.D. in history or a related field. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements by August 2025.Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required):Candidates whose work incorporates public history, history education, and/or digital history are encouraged to apply. The department is looking for someone eligible to teach U.S. History, and Hispanic/Chicano/Latino/e American history as well as upper-level and graduate courses in the candidate’s field of expertise.Description of the Department or Unit:Appalachian State University’s History Department houses one of the largest programs for the education of secondary (9-12) history/social studies teachers in North Carolina. Our program’s mission is to prepare our majors to teach a robust, digitally-infused, and globally-minded history/social studies curriculum. The History Department offers three other undergraduate majors, a master’s degree program, and employs approximately 25 tenure-line faculty members.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:In addition to instructional duties, faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in service activities. All faculty and staff are expected to support Appalachian State University’s Strategic Priorities.
