The Institutional Safety Officer III is a security professional responsible for helping to keep a peaceful and safe campus environment and is considered essential personnel. This position is responsible for protecting individuals on campus property and maintaining the security of campus buildings, facilities, parking lots, walkways, and grounds of the College. The incumbent at this position will supervise, conduct training, and assign work to contracted security officers, in conjunction with the Director of Safety & Campus Operations, of up to 6-15 contracted security personnel.Duties and Responsibilities:Act as first responder to all campus emergencies, medical and criminal, that could potentially be hazardous and/or life threateningEnforce campus policies and procedures as may relate to safety and security concernsMake regular inspection tours of the campus facilities noting unusual occurrencesWatch for trespassers, fire, water leaks, or other circumstances which could lead to loss of or damage to property and equipmentUnlock buildings as scheduled for events and ensure all windows and doors are locked as scheduledObserve and report hazardous conditions to the Director of Safety and Campus OperationsEnsure inside and outside lights are turned on/off as required and inform the Director of Safety and Campus Operations when any electrical or mechanical system is malfunctioningEnsure only authorized persons are admitted to the campus while on dutyDirect visitors and assist as necessaryMonitor parking lots and direct traffic and parking as necessaryEnforce campus traffic regulations including parking and speedingEnforce campus policies including smoking, alcohol usage, and drug usageObserve weather conditions on campus and report dangerous or unusual weather-related activity to the Director of Safety and Campus OperationsProvide awareness education/information on an informal basis to students and employees as needed/requestedMay be required to perform incidental custodial and maintenance duties as requested by facilities (such as turning off a water main)Monitor and train contracted security officers and campus safety officers hired through the criminal justice programPerform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in law enforcement, in a governmental police force or in work involving the protection or security of buildings, equipment or people as the major duty, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions: An Associate's or higher degree with a major in police science, law enforcement or criminal justice may be substituted for the required experience.

$46,888.70 is the annual salary for an AFSCME, Unit II, Grade 13, Step 1 position.
