Location: Prince George, VirginiaSummary:

Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. Conducts safety and environmental inspections of the institution and prepares a report for the Environmental and Safety Compliance Administrator’s review.Promotes adherence to safety policy for the facility.Assists in the training of staff and inmates in firefighting, occupational safety, and environmental protection techniques.Assists the Safety Administrator or Assistant Safety Administrator in conducting investigations, obtaining statements from witnesses, and securing physical evidence.Prepares factual written reports identifying accidents, injuries suffered by staff and/or inmates, property damage costs, and offers recommendations to eliminate future accidents.Responsible for developing and conducting safety training classes for the inmate population and staff.Maintains security of the institution, with correctional responsibilities taking precedence over other duties.Requirements:

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:Education:

Major study in safety or occupational health fields, or a degree in related fields supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in relevant disciplines.Experience:

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service, or a combination of education and experience.Additional Information:

This position is included in the bargaining unit. A maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment.
