ABOUT THE POSITIONEnvironmental/Wetland Scientist | Wethersfield, CTVHB is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our growing Wethersfield, CT, office. This position is a combination of work in the field and office, providing excellent growth opportunity within a vibrant team of professionals.Responsibilities:Conduct and lead a team in the field delineating wetlands and watercourses on various project sites in accordance with state and federal procedures.Perform field environmental permit compliance observation and reporting on energy projects, focused on implementation and maintenance of soil erosion and sedimentation control measures.Assist with state and federal wetland permitting applications and public involvement activities.Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish needs and discuss permitting issues.Work within or lead a team to conduct a wide array of ecological, wildlife, and water resources related studies for environmental, land development, and energy projects.Conduct data analysis and technical report writing.Utilize GIS applications for field collection and desktop analysis.Field work in all seasons and travel for site visits required.Skills & Abilities:Ability to work confidently and independently on active construction sites.Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills for coordination with subconsultants and colleagues.Experience reading and understanding engineering site plans.Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to grow professionally.Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.Strong communication skills with clients, contractors, and officials.Experience with budget establishment and proposal writing preferred.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, wetland science, soil science, ecological sciences, or related field required.Master's degree in a related field preferred (may substitute for 1 year of experience).5-8 years of professional environmental consulting experience required.Qualified Soil Scientist certification preferred.Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist or on track to obtain strongly preferred.Experience on construction sites and with Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control measures preferred.We are VHB!
