At Summit Materials, we support our teammates who lay the groundwork for our communities and live by our core values: Safety, Integrity, Sustainability, and Inclusivity.OverviewThe Safety Manager is responsible for leadership, team development, and all aspects of developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, and evaluating practices and facilities to ensure compliance with legal regulations. This position will also conduct training sessions, investigate incidents, lead site execution of the corporate/segment safety strategy, and provide recommendations for improvement.This position is located at our Harleyville, SC facility with relocation assistance available.Plans, implements, manages, and maintains comprehensive safety & health programs; conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance.Collaborates with management during internal and external audits and inspections of the workplace to ensure teammates are safe.Effectively communicates to convey ideas and information to others while providing coaching, teaching, and mentoring.Serves as the primary contact for site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management.Records all incident/near miss reports timely and accurately in the Safety Management System (SMS).Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, investigations, and related correspondence.Develops, implements, and updates site-specific emergency response plans as necessary.Provides leadership to Joint Safety and Health Committees through active participation.Analyzes safety data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.Administers safety recognition systems to promote safe and healthy work performance.Other duties may be required and will be assigned as necessary.Skills & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in health & safety management or closely related field; or 5+ years demonstrated progressive experience in safety management roles.Extensive understanding of safety principles and regulatory compliance requirements.Knowledge of auditing and inspection expectations with regulators/agencies.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites with accurate data entry skills.Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.High level of integrity and commitment to comply with all applicable regulations and standards.Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.The physical demands and work environment described herein are representative of those that must be met by a teammate to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
