Science Systems and Applications Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a Research Scientist to contribute to the development of machine learning (ML) applications for land surface hydrology. The position involves developing advanced data analytics with model outputs, remote sensing and ground measurements of terrestrial hydrology variables.The candidate is expected to work on the development and application of state-of-the-art machine learning tools to enhance land surface hydrology models.Duties Include but are not limited to:

The candidate will be responsible for software management and development of the AI/ML applications.The candidate will lead development efforts for applications of supervised/unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning, and science-based deep learning that combines physical models with observations.The candidate will present results in peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations.The candidate will organize meetings and coordinate project efforts.The candidate will write and review technical reports.Required Qualifications

MS in a related science field and 5 years of overall related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience in remote sensing, data assimilation, land surface/hydrological modeling.4 years of experience in machine learning technologies such as TensorFlow, Keras, and Pytorch on a variety of computing architectures.Proficiency with Python language, Unix, and multiprocessor environments is required.Experience with organizing meetings and coordinating projects is required.Experience with writing and reviewing technical reports is required.The candidate must have good communication and documentation skills.The candidate must be able to work independently with little oversight.Permanent residency or US Citizenship required.Desired Qualifications:

Experience with formal software development processes, object-oriented programming and knowledge of version control tools.Good knowledge of satellite datasets.
