Please do not apply here, apply internally through Workday.If you are NOT a current employee or student, please click "Apply" and complete the application process for external applicants.JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The Social Science Research Institute at Penn State University, University Park, is seeking applications for an Assistant Research Professor to join an active data analytics team focused on child maltreatment and child welfare involving children and families. We are particularly interested in candidates with training and experience in data science, including data wrangling of administrative data. This includes responsibility for overseeing and managing sensitive data assets in collaboration with faculty researchers across various areas of study for research projects and publications.The successful candidate will have the following:Ability to lead cleaning, resolution of quality issues, and transformation of raw administrative records into datasets usable for cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis.Experience conducting and improving probabilistic data linkages ("fuzzy matching") across government systems (e.g., child welfare, criminal justice, Medicaid, etc.).Fluency in common statistical programming languages (Stata, SAS, Python).Preference for familiarity with database management and warehousing solutions (e.g., SQL, AWS, Snowflake).Strong oral and written language communication.A commitment to data privacy and security.Candidates should have a terminal degree at the time of hire in the Social Sciences (PhD) or Data Sciences (MS). Those applying with terminal master's degrees in the data sciences should have at least three years of applied experience with administrative data.We are an innovative team from the SSRI's Child Maltreatment Solutions Network (solutionsnetwork.psu.edu) and the Translational Center for Child Maltreatment Studies (TCCMS), supported through a Capstone Center grant from NICHD. Our team is committed to applied, policy-relevant research and to embracing and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.This is a one-year, term position working on multi-year projects with an excellent likelihood of renewal based on performance.Qualified candidates should submit a letter describing interest, a CV outlining background and experience, and the names of three references.CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS:Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
