ATTENTION:The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Flute beginning August, 2025.JOB DETAILS:The selected candidate will teach studio flute, woodwind techniques (flute only), coach chamber music and other courses depending on the needs of the Department and the candidate's expertise. The selected candidate will participate in departmental activities with a particular emphasis on recruiting and outreach, participating in service activities and embracing the principles of inclusion and belonging as a University community member. The selected candidate will be expected to pursue an active professional performance/scholarly agenda. Other duties as assigned according to the qualifications of the successful candidate.QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Qualifications:Earned doctorate; ABD considered (see below)Demonstrated artistry in flute performancePrior successful college or university teaching experience, including studio and classroom work in both online and face-to-face environmentsDemonstrated excellence in teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate studentsEvidence of potential for distinguished performance, creative work, and/or scholarshipDemonstrated ability to successfully recruit and retain students in a competitive academic and musical environment, with a proven track record of fostering growth within a flute studioExperience working with music technology in education and/or performanceABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2025; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January, 2026 in advance of their first scheduled reviewKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to interact respectfully with people with diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgroundsWillingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drillsRESPONSIBILITIES:The primary professional responsibilities of this faculty member are to teach studio flute, woodwind techniques (flute only), coach chamber music and other courses depending on the needs of the Department and the candidate's expertise, with a particular emphasis on the recruitment and retention of a thriving flute studio and serving as an academic advisor to flute majors.Other responsibilities may include teaching World of the Arts (an interdisciplinary arts course), Music as a Business, or Introduction to Music Theory.Collaborate with other faculty and staff in promoting positive relationships through recruitment and outreach.Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellence in teaching; a record of peer-reviewed creative/scholarly activity in the discipline; strong leadership service contributions to school, college, and university committees and to external professional organizations that serve the broader discipline's communities.Faculty at UW-Whitewater may be required to teach online and/or in a hybrid format, or evening courses.Faculty may also elect to teach New Student Seminar or University Learning Communities, or participate in other programs geared toward improving student success.COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary of $53,000.
