Mitchell College seeks an Interim Director Residence Life & Student Conduct to provide a high level of support to our residential students and manage the student conduct process at the college. Reporting to the Dean of Student Experience and Belonging, this position will ensure a highly individualized environment for our students and making connections to necessary campus resources. The DRL will work in partnership with the Directors of Student Engagement, Advising, Health and Wellness, Campus Safety and other departments as necessary.

This position is full-time and temporary for the 24-25 academic year with the possibility of permanent employment.

Residence Life Responsibilities and Duties:

Oversee and develop residential communities that are supportive of personal growth, academic achievement and respect for others.

Responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day operations, services and activities of the residential community at Thames and Mitchell.

Responsible for all housing operations, including openings, closings, inventory of furnishings and equipment inspections, distribution of combinations and keys, room selection, housing assignments, etc.

Supervise the Residence Hall Directors to ensure high quality campus programming and team approach to serving our students.

Serve as the advisor to the Residence Hall Association and/or other clubs.

Engage as a visible, committed role model of the campus community.

Enforces Mitchell College policies/practices.

Shares in on-call responsibilities and responds to high stress situations, when necessary.

Participation on departmental, divisional and college-wide committees.

Conducts follow-up communication with students, faculty, administrators, and/or parents.

Other duties as assigned.

Conduct Responsibilities and Duties:

Manages residence life and conduct database software (Symplicity Residence and Advocate), statistics, benchmarks, and assessment tools.

Serves as primary conduct office for most college policy violations. For major policy violations, the Director of Residence Life will assist in adjudicating with the Dean of Student Experience & Belonging or conduct board.

Coordinates recruitment, selection, evaluation, and oversight of student conduct board members.

Maintains accurate web presence for student conduct and serves as a resource for divisional web presence.

Serves as deputy coordinator for Title IX, may serve in the role Title IX investigator or mediator as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties:This position is considered “essential staff” during inclement weather and other emergency situations. When required, the staff member will be available, visible, and accessible on-campus to provide services as needed and as directed by the Dean of Student Experience and Belonging.

Required/Preferred Education and Experience:

Master’s required.

Minimum four years’ campus life or related experience preferred.

Experience working with diverse populations, college age students and at a small private college preferred.

Ability to problem solve independently, creatively and react appropriately in crisis and other high stress situations.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Knowledge of student development theory, research, and best practices in Student Affairs required.

Ability to maintain confidential information and work collaboratively with multiple departments.

Physical Demands:This position will require climbing up and down stairs to execute routine job functions and serve in an on-call capacity. Reasonable accommodations will be made upon request.
