POSITION PURPOSEThe Director, Payment Acceptance is tasked with optimizing the customer payment experience while managing the expenses and overseeing the strategic objectives associated with accepting non-Home Depot branded tenders (e.g., bankcard credit, bankcard, debit, mobile wallets, and checks/ACH). The primary responsibilities include managing the Company’s payment acceptance practices and infrastructure, negotiating agreements and optimizing processes to control the cost of acceptance, establishing proper technologies and processes to mitigate chargebacks/fraud, and leading the Company’s strategy related to emerging payment technologies. To be successful, the candidate will need to understand the technicalities of payment processing and be able to effectively manage the Company’s relationships with key payment processing partners. He/she will need to stay apprised of industry developments and appropriately prioritize/oversee necessary technical changes, while ensuring successful change management within the organization. He/she will also need to be an effective communicator as the candidate will represent the Company’s view on payments in external environments. He/she will need to be able to synthesize a lot of information into a digestible format and be able to clearly communicate vision, results, etc. to Senior Leadership. Finally, the position oversees a fairly large team, so the candidate will need to be able to effectively delegate, motivate, and develop direct reports.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

25%- Oversee the day-to-day operations of bankcard acceptance practices (inclusive of process monitoring, reporting, team development, etc.)

15%- Negotiate cost of acceptance agreements with payment processors/card networks and manage ongoing relationships. Work with Finance to set departmental and program budgets

15%- Oversee management of bankcard acceptance costs (interchange) by identifying and implementing cost out strategies. Effectively manage fraud/chargeback exposure through analytics and operational processes. Act as internal consultant to other departments with regard to payment impact

15%- Maintain constant familiarity with payment network operating rules and ensure that THD operations are compliant. Provide feedback to payment brands on existing and/or proposed rule changes as applicable. Establish position on strategic initiatives and recommend appropriate actions to Senior Leadership

15%- Promote customer and merchant-friendly payment system enhancements (including security) through external interactions with key payment system participants, advocacy groups, government officials, etc. Conduct presentations for key industry groups and participate in expert panels as applicable

15%- Work with Store Operations and IT to implement customer-friendly and economically-responsible bankcard acceptance strategies

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Environment:

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a Master's Degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience:

8 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred MBA or equivalent

Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Economics or equivalent.

Background in finance, retail operations and/or payment processing/credit services/banking

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

Superior critical thinking skills and analytic abilities

Highly capable of interpreting data/facts to make sound decisions with little guidance

Strong project management skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively

Detail oriented in daily work with an ability to create high-level executive summaries, including conclusions and recommended actions

Strong financial acumen; ability to interpret financials and instinctively consider relative costs and benefits of potential actions

Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization

Ability to work independently with minimal direction

Ability to negotiate with and influence decision makers across different functional areas and across different cultures (both inside and outside the Company)

Ability to operate successfully in an ambiguous environment with objectives not always clearly defined
