Postdoctoral Researcher- Experimental High Energy Physics

Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher- Experimental High Energy PhysicsLocation: Syracuse UniversityPay Range: $58,500 - $62,000Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.FLSA Status: ExemptHours: As determined by supervisorJob Type: Full-timeRank: Post DocUnionized Position Code: Not ApplicableJob Description: The Physics department at Syracuse University is soliciting applications for a postdoctoral researcher who will work in Experimental High Energy Physics on the LHCb experiment and its Upgrades. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will be stationed at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland or the Syracuse University Campus. The appointment can begin early 2024.Qualifications:PhD in Experimental High Energy PhysicsJob Specific Qualifications:Experience in experimental hardware and/or physics analysis.Responsibilities:Develop a realistic set of specifications for the calorimeter for LHCb Upgrade 2, which will inform the instrumental R&D of the group. This will be accomplished by incorporating different detector parameters in the LHCb simulation. In particular, the work will identify the requirements of time resolution which will inform the choice in detector parameters. The physics analysis work will involve the precision study of semileptonic decays to uncover signatures of physics beyond the Standard Model. Incorporation of theory tools, such as EOS or HAMMER, in the vibrant program of physics analyses related to this subject will be a key deliverable.Once the Upstream detector construction is completed, the challenging task is to integrate the detector in LHCb and develop the monitoring infrastructure to ensure everything is working properly. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to modules needed for this software infrastructure. The successful candidate will collaborate with the commissioning team and be responsible for some modules to be determined at the time of appointment, as the specifics are contingent on the start time.Application Instructions: In addition to completing an online application, please submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a cover letter that includes a short description of your qualifications, along with the e-mail addresses/phone numbers of three references.EEO Statement: Syracuse University is an equal-opportunity, affirmative-action institution.
