Assistant Professor (Early Modern Ibero-American)

The Department of Romance Studies at Cornell University welcomes applications for an Assistant Professor of Spanish in Early Modern Iberoamerican Literatures and Cultures. We are looking for a scholar working on early modern literatures and cultures through interdisciplinary and crosslinguistic approaches on either, or especially, both sides of the Atlantic. We are interested in scholars whose work is theoretically informed, and at the crossroads of different media and methodologies, such as comparative imperialisms, racial formations, indigenous knowledge production, material cultures, and/or literary poetics.Applicants should have a robust research profile and strong potential in publication, teaching, and mentoring. They should also have native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English. We seek applicants whose record in research, teaching, and service can support our growing diverse student body.The candidate will be expected to teach four courses per year, a combination of graduate and undergraduate courses, including literature and culture survey courses. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in a related field at the time of appointment, and will be expected to teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students, participate in committees, and actively contribute to the intellectual life of the department, strengthening collaborations with programs such as Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Africana Studies and Research Center, and departments such as Comparative Literature, History of Art, and Near Eastern Studies.
