Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is seeking experienced, motivated, and dedicated leaders and educators to participate in the design and delivery of an innovative four-year medical school curriculum that engages medical students in active and novel learning.Required Documents to Apply:Applicants should submit the following materials:Letter of interest highlighting essential qualifications and interestsResumeDiversity StatementJob Description:About the PositionThe Director of Academic Advising plays a vital role in leading and organizing the advising resources to support students navigating the curriculum, performing career exploration, and progressing toward graduation. They will also assist students on their pathway to a successful residency application and contribute to their professional development.Major ResponsibilitiesOrganize the specialty advising and career mentoring programs, identifying, recruiting and training of specialty advisors and career mentors.Assign students to the appropriate learning community and career mentor. Monitor participation and meeting of objectives.Track student progress toward graduation, ensuring educational and career plans align with coursework.Provide initial support to general advising resources such as AAMC Careers in Medicine (CIM).Organize career exploration and planning activities, including CIM lunches, resident mixers, CV workshops, etc.Assist in the creation and updating of specialty and residency online resources, including a Pathway to Residency course.Help students understand and comply with AWSOM policies and procedures, including grade appeals, remediation requirements, etc.Ensure that students are aware of support services available to them through AWSOM.Refer students to relevant resources, including tutoring, personal counseling, wellness support.Work with the Learning Specialist to identify at risk students and implement remediation plans.RequiredMasters’s Degree in education, psychology, or related fieldKnowledge of academic advising, career services, student development theory, and/or the career development processPreferredMD, PhD, or EdD in education, psychology, or related fieldSupervisory experienceMinimum of 5 years' experience in undergraduate medical education at an LCME-accredited institutionSkills Expected of All AWSOM Team MembersExemplary written, verbal and other communication skillsAdaptable and flexible to the needs of the position and the schoolCollaborative skills: Build and maintain relationships internal and external to the organizationCreative and open-minded: Enjoy exploring and supporting innovation in teaching strategies, topic areas, professional growth opportunities, and moreDiscerning: Ability to recognize and support innovationHighly self-directed, and reliable and accountableStrong commitment to self-careCommitted to diversity and inclusion: Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders (e.g., co-workers, students, community members)Ability to effectively mentor a diversity of individualsCommitment to meet and maintain professional development requirements related to this role
