Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher - Autonomous Systems Policy Institute (ASPI)Location: Syracuse UniversityPay Range: $60,450 - $70,000Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Post-Doc pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.FLSA Status: ExemptHours: Dependent upon faculty scheduleJob Type: Full-timeRank: Post DocCampus: Syracuse UniversityUnionized Position Code: Not ApplicableJob Description: The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to ongoing and new research projects that align with ASPI’s three primary areas of expertise: AI Policy, Responsible AI, and the Future of Work. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading experts from the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs, School of Information Studies (iSchool), College of Engineering and Computer Science, and other relevant units at Syracuse University.Qualifications: A PhD in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Science, Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology, Law, or a related discipline.Job Specific Qualifications: Conduct original research in one or more of ASPI’s focus areas: (1) AI Policy, (2) Responsible AI, and (3) Future of Work. AI Policy includes all research to inform or evaluate institutions that govern the use of AI—including laws, government programs, or organizations—spanning empirical, normative, and historical approaches. Responsible AI aims to study how to develop AI systems in ways that are ethical, legal, safe, and trustworthy. Future of Work involves research on how technological advancements (e.g., generative AI, autonomous driving, etc.) are reshaping the employment landscape, affecting job roles, and driving changes in workforce needs.Responsibilities:Collaborate with ASPI faculty, researchers, and students to design and implement research projects. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.Assist in securing research funding through grant proposals.Participate in public engagement activities through the Academic Alliance for AI Policy and the U.S. National Institute for Standards and Technology AI Safety Consortium, which Syracuse University has membership in.Participate in ASPI seminars, workshops, and conferences.Application Instructions: In addition to completing an online application, please attach a curriculum vitae and cover letter.
