Provides leadership, vision, and direction for the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University through its exhibitions, interpretive materials, and collections. Develops long term, mission-oriented relationships with FIU faculty, artists, higher education institutions, the museum's Advisory Council, community members and organizations, museum colleagues, and collectors. Serves as a vocal and visible leader and public spokesperson and ambassador for the institution and its program.Envisions, develops, and implements an exhibition strategy that contributes to the Frost's reputation as a leader in the museum field and an asset to the region, state, and nation.Employ the highest standards for research and knowledge of art and best museum practice to develop and implement exhibitions that are timely, relevant, and encourage dialogues.Oversees all aspects of exhibition planning and implementation, including organization of in-house exhibitions, work with guest curators, implement exhibition contracts. Works with communities that speak English and Spanish.Preserves, interprets, and promotes the advancement and understanding of the Frost's collection through creative interpretation, exhibitions, and publications.Creates collecting plan to guide acquisitions for growth of permanent collection.Makes recommendations for the permanent collection, including accession/deaccession decisions and acquisition. Serves as liaison to Advisory Council for Art Committee.Oversees and mentors department staff and interns, make staffing and hiring decisions for department as needed.Develops and adheres to annual curatorial department budget, demonstrate sound fiscal responsibility.Works with Education department to develop exhibition interpretive materials including gallery guides, wall text, labels, website content, and catalog texts. Performs thorough research on an academic- level for scheduled and potential exhibitions.Provides tours and gives interpretive exhibition talks to classes, visiting groups, and docents as necessary, as well as tours and presentations for faculty, students, and high-value donors on an as-needed basis.Works closely with the Director and Director of Development to identify, cultivate and steward current and future museum patrons and donors.Works closely with the Grant Administrator to identify grants to support exhibitions, collections research, and other areas related to museum growth.Ensure the institution is adhering to American Alliance of Museums(AAM) standards for exhibitions, collections, and curatorial programming. Help with museum reaccreditation process.Develops and maintains relationships with community leaders, FIU faculty, artists, donors, collectors, and professional colleagues.Participate as a key member of the institution's leadership team, works collaboratively across departments to implement the museum's mission.Build upon relationships with artists, gallerists, and museum professionals locally, nationally and internationally to raise the profile of the museum, and mentor curatorial staff and students to do the same.Teaches courses related to exhibition planning or curatorial practices.Communicates and works with artists and other key collaborators to coordinate exhibits from initial planning stages through installation. Communicates with academic units of the university to build collaborative relationships for exhibitions.Engages with the art community. Attends networking events, visits artist studios, galleries and museums.Participates in the Acquisitions Committee and assists in assessing potential donations. Makes recommendations for acquisitions.Works with special projects and develops and implements curatorial programs such as visiting artist programs or artist in residence program.Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related discipline and seven (7) years' experience in related field or a Master's degree and five (5) years' experience in related field.Desired Qualifications

Museum curatorial experience with an established track record of exhibitions, professional publications, and active involvement in affiliate groups (AAMC, AAMG).Experience managing budgets.Knowledge in Art and Art History.Experience teaching at the undergraduate level.Job Category
