Chapin Hall is seeking an experienced Researcher who will work collaboratively with Chapin Hall staff. This position will report directly to a Research Fellow and allows for remote work and periodic in-person attendance at Chicago, IL meetings. The successful applicant is expected to work normal business hours and must have flexibility in their work schedule to accommodate business demands.Chapin Hall seeks an individual with strong quantitative research competencies and interests to work in teams on projects that generate data analytics and evidence to inform decision-making by public and private child-serving agencies, including child welfare, juvenile justice, and human service systems across the country. Projects focus on the analytic activities necessary to conduct program evaluation and to inform system planning and decision-making, including linking multiple sources of county, state and federal administrative data and conducting statistical analyses such as multilevel modeling, survival analyses, latent class analysis, geospatial gap analysis, and other forms of analytic support. Chapin Hall has an ambitious agenda and an exciting portfolio of projects that are equity-centered, youth powered, cross systems, and evidence focused.This is an ideal opportunity for an emerging scholar with solid quantitative skills who is interested in data science, data linking, and theoretically driven translational research on juvenile justice system transformation. The position offers an opportunity for long-term growth including an increasingly autonomous role in the design, conduct, and dissemination of translational research and opportunities for advancement. We seek a driven scholar with expertise in data analytics and applied statistics who will contribute innovative ideas, support and conduct proposal and business development efforts, and co-author and present works to a range of audiences.RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Analytics & Applied StatisticsIndependently converts, merges, and assembles large-scale administrative data that often need to be cleaned for analysis for multiple projects.Uses R, Python, VBA, SQL/PostgreSQL, STATA, SAS, and/or other appropriate analytic software programs.Develops and maintains programming codes that transform administrative data into analyzable formats and/or that can be utilized for data analysis, with a strong emphasis on generalizability and transparency.Automates existing and emerging processes for importing, documenting, integrating, and updating data as well as coding best practices such as code review and version control.Performs modeling and complex statistical analyses under supervision.Generates data visualization to accompany, complement, and illuminate study findings.Conducts targeted review of both academic and grey literature.Analyzes and synthesizes research findings, for both academic and non-academic audiences.Project Leadership & ManagementParticipates in discussions regarding study design and methods, with increasing input and autonomy across time.Assists in developing study objectives, designing research studies using large administrative data sources, analysis plans, and data linking procedures to achieve study objectives.Assists teams with using research and data to inform business process mapping and implementation strategies.Writes sections of research results for funders and/or publications, and assists with report production activities, including proofing, formatting, and creating tables and graphs.Coordinates and participates in (virtual and in-person) meetings with external stakeholders.Designs data visualizations, reports, slide decks, and other deliverables.Prepares and delivers presentations.Communicates with project team members and external partners.Performs additional duties as assigned.Qualifications

A doctoral degree in psychology, social work, public policy, education, public health, sociology, criminology, or another relevant field plus applied research and data linking experience using administrative data; ORA master's degree in data science, biostatistics, computer science, econometrics, statistics, or social science/policy with significant advanced coursework in statistics and programming plus a minimum of five years of relevant experience in applied research using administrative data.Minimum of 3 years' experience working with large-scale administrative datasets and data systems in public sector, and/or related work.Professional experience with R, Python, VBA, SQL/PostgreSQL, STATA, SAS and/or other appropriate program languages, preferably experience working in a Unix/Linux environment.Solid background in research design and quantitative methods and statistical analysis.Background in juvenile justice practice, policy, or research.A record of contribution to the dissemination of research.Strong interest in and aptitude for data cleaning, quality check, diagnosis of inconsistencies and accuracy of large-scale administrative data, and further development of analytic skills.Demonstrated capacity for taking initiative, problem-solving, and working in a collaborative research environment.Ability to manage multiple, concurrent tasks.Strong attention to detail with good organization and communication skills.Ability to translate complex concepts and study findings in oral and written communications.Demonstrated judgment and discretion in the handling of sensitive information.MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
