About the JobThe University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, Department of Primary Dental Care invites applications and nominations for a clinical track faculty position (100% FTE) to teach all aspects of general dentistry in the Comprehensive Care Clinics. This position will report to the Division Director of the Division of Comprehensive Care. This is a non-tenure track Clinical Assistant position with the option to participate in up to one day per week extramural practice.

Job Duties:

Teaching and directing pre-doctoral students in the comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment management of patients.

Oversee students to ensure patients receive excellent care, students receive a clinical education that meets the standards of each dental discipline, and resources are used efficiently.

Assist students as they generate comprehensive treatment and prevention/management plans for their patients, ensuring that treatment plans are comprehensively developed, appropriately adapted to patient needs, and correctly sequenced to manage patient oral health needs.

Continually evaluate the quality and timeliness of care provided to patients.

Promote and support efforts to foster a humanistic environment that advances and encourages an inclusive environment as well as diversity and inclusion in the division, department and school.

Coordinate and promote a collaborative clinical educational environment between dental, dental hygiene, and dental therapy students.

Direct, support, evaluate and document student progress toward attaining competence in Comprehensive Care Clinic course objectives.

Utilize assessment and grading procedures of comprehensive care, operative dentistry and other areas as needed.

Collaboratively work with faculty from the Division of Operative Dentistry in providing instruction and oversight to students with restorative procedures, and support and coordinate treatment in all disciplines of dentistry.

Be available for and responsive to electronic communications (emails, messages in the electronic dental records system, etc.).

Become familiar with group leader duties and responsibilities in order to step in and fill in as needed for a group leader during absences or other times, and to represent the group leader at meetings or events as directed.

Must attend regularly scheduled division meetings for continuous quality improvement and to maintain cohesive and consistent policies and procedures within the groups and between the Division of Comprehensive Care and the other clinical disciplines.

Support Group Leaders in evaluating the clinical and professional development of students.

Support all clinical policies and procedures of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

DDS, DMD, or recognized international equivalent degree.

Minnesota dental license or eligible for Minnesota dental license by start date.

Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, working effectively and collaboratively with multiple groups and diverse constituencies, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Excellent communications skills.

Proficient at managing or participating in an oral health care team that supports efficient patient care.

Ability to teach all aspects of general dentistry, including the demonstration of techniques, and assessment of student performance.

Minimum 3 years of experience in clinical practice.

Preferred:

Experience teaching/supervising students in an academic setting.

Experience in digital dentistry - with scanning emphasis.

Experience presenting didactic content.
